Has anyone maxed out their DDR4 ram in their 5K mac? Share your experience, what brand, cost, where it was bought, recommendations?

I did last year. 27 5k mac spec i7 but started with 16, then maxed it out to 32 using one of those popular ram sites for Apple products.

I forget which one, OWC I think. First batch there was a defect so sent it back for free. Got the pair back and now I’m running 32 gigs smoothly.

    Worth the price of admission.

Where did you buy them and how much was it? RAM right now in the US is expensive. I should have bought back in December, but I was still undecided then if I should get a Macbook Pro or an iMac.

I didn't maxed out my 5K iMac last December but I upgraded it to 24GB memory. Added two 8 GB Crucial CT8G4S24AM which works with the existing 2x4 GB RAM that came with the iMac.

Got the RAM from Amazon and paid around $80 per 8GB at that time.

Hey guys, I just ordered a 2017 iMac and was wondering if you have any leads or info if I can just use one 8GB stick in the meantime to add to the 2x4GB sticks that come with the unit?

With the price of RAM right now, I'm ok with 16GB total for now, with a 2x4 + 1x8 configuration.

    Thanks in advance!

Hi, I believe this won't have any problems at all.

May I ask where did you buy your 8GB stick?

    Thanks.

Oh, I was able to find a pair from someone who upgraded from 2x4 to 2x16. I wasn't sure if an unpaired one would work. Doing fine with 16GB right now. Saving up for 2x16 towards the end of the year.
