okay pardon the ignorance but what does it mean if the 13 inch macbook pro has only one audio jack?

i heard the user has to select whether it's going to be used for line in or line out? what if, say, i want to record a guitar or voice track with a condenser microphone and listen to myself using headphones at the same time, would that be possible?

I think you'll basically need another USB sound card interface that has line in/line out. Unless someone releases a special dongle that can separate the line in/ line out of that jack. Strange that they would do that considering the "lower end" MacBook Unibody it replaced has both line and and line out jacks. But it was probably done to make room for the SD card slot.
