Hi, I got my 2015 rMBP messed up while I was travelling. Obviously this isn’t under warranty anymore but do you have any recommendations? Based from my research, the actual display needs to be replaced. Anyone had a similar experience? I’m haven’t gone to any service centers yet and I’m trying to look for people who had a similar experience so I can gauge how much it costs before I go to the actual service center. Your help is deeply appreciated I’m also exploring the option of screen repairs in green hills but I don’t know if they do macbook pros. Another option that I don’t like is buying an adapter and a monitor... My last option is replacing it, unfortunately my mac isn’t backed up. Do BTB or PMC offer somewhat a restore service for customers buying a new device? P.S. This has been over a month with me and I’m bummed out ((
I would suggest to inquire in some reputable Greenhills repair shop. I guess it would take 20k pesos (max) for the replacement of whole LCD panel.
If you see any anti-reflective coating peel, it might be worth bringing it over to an authorized service center to check if they can replace the screen free. Might be an isolated case, I had my mid-2015 screen replaced in Powermac SM Aura even it had a nasty dent (4” long, aluminum scraped off).
This happened to me sometime in September. My 2015 rMBP fell on the floor and hit it on the edge. Mine was even worse but happy that the board is fine despite a screw anchor dent that could have damaged the battery and other parts. I had to plug my machine on my TV / external monitor to access my files and back them up before visiting the Apple Store in Orchard Road. There, after a thorough assessment, the Apple technician advised to have the whole screen replaced, which could cost around S$1000 (PhP 38.3k++ in today's forex) and another 5 business days to retrieve it. I have given up my hopes at bargaining for a more friendly amount but the waiting time isn't really an option as my mac is my daily workhorse. So i mentioned to the kind man, off the record, if he knows any other options for me to consider. Honestly, I also wanted to save a bit of moolah. I was on the verge of purchasing a brand new one to the tune of a damaging S$4,000 but it's just so unbearable. Lest i forget, he also offered a tip wherein I could simply purchase a brand new MBP and take advantage of the 14-day return policy while my machine is being serviced. I find it quite troublesome to reinstall or even restore my backups on the new device. And so, he gladly mentioned the name of a stall in Sim Lim Square (SLS). I was also told that the guys were ex-Apple technicians so they know what they're doing. I was quoted with S$700-800 and around 1 day waiting time to complete the replacement process when I phoned them before visiting. When I reached SLS, I chanced upon another mac stall that's been there since I owned my first MBP. I quickly sought help and got a firm quote of $680 plus 30mins - 1 hour waiting time only. Quite unbelievable but I had to trust my instinct once in a while. I checked the replacement screen, free from scratches and without issues. 1 month warranty. I didn't go to the stall where I'm supposed to visit. And as agreed, the screen was replaced in front of me in less than an hour. The anchor dent was also corrected so it's longer pushing the aluminum cover. Within the month, I managed to test and found a couple of issues: the facetime camera isn't working and the brightness isn't accurate like it's not too bright. I went back and got another replacement with all issues fixed without charges. Months from then, all's well so far. I suggest you keep these in mind when verifying your device if you intend to have it serviced soon. Good luck.
^ just be careful with uncanny stores there. i was getting my iPhone 5 battery replaced back in the day and the babae was quick at switching the brand battery with a lousy one. glad that my eyes are faster. lol
Have you tried QCD in Robinson’s Galleria? Had replaced 2 iPhones there already with no hitches, though yours is different.
Hey guys, just an update. I got an initial quote from PMC SC, they told me usually it's around 30k-ish without any liquid damage. It will still be subjected for testing to find out all issues before they provide the exact amount. I was thinking of just buying a new laptop because I thought that the MBA is just around 50k-ish Then I found out the 50k-ish MBA is like the same model since around 2013-ish? The new designs are also at around 70k-ish which is a few thousand peso away from the MBP. As of now, I don't plan on spending around 70k-ish for a new MBP because I'm not a content creator so I don't generate income off of an MBP. The reason I need an MBP is because I am heavily invested in the apple ecosystem and the device is reliable AF(software-wise). I decided to just use an external display(Currently connected to my TV via HDMI).
