"Apple Introduces Redesigned 10.9-Inch iPad Air With A14 Chip, All-Screen Design, Touch ID in Power Button, and USB-C" Starts at $599. EDIT: Here's some differences between the 11inch iPad Pro compared to the new Air: The pro has.. - 0.1" - up to 1T SSD - 10MP Ultra Wide - starting with 128GB instead of 64 SSD - the dimensions and weight are almost the same - 600 nits max brightness over 500nits on the air - ProMotion technology - Brighter True Tone flash - Four speaker audio - faceID and touchID
Apple screwed up those who just bought the 11” iPad Pros. They basically released a cheaper iPad with a faster processor and same compatibility with the Pro’s accessories. I don’t think the differences enumerated above are worth the $200 difference. The new Air is definitely the best bang for the buck iPad model.
so tempted to get the air. Luckily i did not buy the pro 11". The only major diff i see is the Lidr camera. I was checking for the uses of Lidr camera on the ipad pro not alot of uses still. so i agree the air wins this one! but im sure apple will release a pro model next year that will definitely outshine the air by leaps and bounds haha mini led for the screen and A15 bionic chip maybe? haha
Looks like I'll be retracting my decision for getting the new Air. I do a lot of design/sketching work on my current iPad Pro 2017 with 120hz, and the 120Hz helps alot with the responsiveness of the Apple Pencil used on the iPad. I'm sure I'll notice the input lag, so I guess it's the next generation (2021?) Pro for me.
I was in the market for an iPad Pro 2020, but the official resellers don't have any stocks. :| I wan't to buy the iPad Air 2020 now, but I really don't want to wait lol. This will probably arrive here November/December?
Yes if you're buying in the local APRs. The gray market sellers in Greenhills might get this by end of the month or early October.
I just noticed. When you use the smart keyboards, the iPad Air's new color will not be noticeable. That's why I prefer the cheaper option of using the Magic Keyboard. Yes it's not slick. But I hope we get it here in PH before Christmas.
I have a 10.5-inch 2017 iPad Pro too. I was just thinking of upgrading to this but it has no 120Hz display and it only has dual speakers. Come on Apple, don't be so stingy with Promotion. We can't go back. Although if this 2020 iPad Air had Promotion, it would really cannibalize the iPad Pro sales, I think. But since when did Apple care about cannibalization as long as it came from within?
This is my next. "upgrading" from 2017 iPad Pro 10.5" So happy with the feature set to price ratio. I don't draw so ProMotion isn't as important for me. TouchID really helps these days and all I wanted for is stereo speakers on landscape and its there!
In what area that the ProMotion/120Hz become an advantage? Is it just, if you do a lot of sketching/drawing? Do you think that $200 extra for the 11inch Pro worth spending?
Unfortunately during these hard times, most gadget seller’s specially gadgets needed by the students for their online classes are over priced by the sellers. Last year around November 2019 i was able to buy used iPad pro 11 inches for around 32k in GH. Yesterday i was in GreenHills i’m looking for the same unit 11 inches 2018 iPad pro the cheapest i found is 39k used. I respect their prices it’s a business..but show little understanding for the sake of the kids. i’m glad Apple released these new cheap iPads, we’re just going to wait for our local authorized store to have a stock.
mm...120 hz not much of an advantage if you do not use the Apple Pencil a lot for work or leisure. I think the iPad Air 2 is a slightly better value. But that extra 200 bucks for the iPad Pro affords you 120 hz promotion display, face id, and twice the storage (64 vs 128, base models).
The pro monicker is really for the pros, as it is really marketed as a creation tool (hence the 120hz, LiDAR, 4 speakrs, and higher storage). With general usage for typing, media consumption, browsing, netflix/movies, and gaming, this will be hands down the better value. With the money to get an iPad Pro, just the an iPad Air 2 + Airpods Pro and I'm sure you'll be happier. For us designers, we look at this as a tool to make money, so that 120hz pencil responsiveness is important and anything lower will throw us off our usual workflow given that we already tasted ProMotion. I tried my girlfriend's normal iPad with Apple Pencil and Procreate feels a bit.. weird on it.
Thanks Sir Raypin. But here it is P14k difference for the base model. Getting the iPad Air 2020 256GB wifi at P43k put you closer to the 11 inch Pro's price. Oh. so It all boils down on how extensively one uses the pencil or not.
Yup, that's why for you lucky people, you'll appreciate how good this machine is despite any lesser components. The details and colors on the screen are technically the same (maybe even better for now?), so that's what's most important.
Yes! Once your eyes settled on 120Hz it is challenging to go back to 60Hz specially for Designing using Apple Pencil. But it’s not impossible when my iPad Pro breaks i was forced to used my iPad Pro 9.7inch OG 32gb also using Procreate i did get used to it after a week. I think this new iPad Air will be just fine or will be better for us, also for designers that A14 bionic is something else can’t wait to test that. I’m more confused about the colors i want that new Blue, but that Space Gray is still getting me, i wish there’s a matte Black option.
Of course, it is possible and capable, but time and output is money and I'll just earn those through an invesment that has no compromises; which pays for itself. Since we're at the topic of designing/sketching via iPad, here's a sample of one of my rough study/sketches that I've done with Procreate: To see the final output (I used photoshop for the FA), play League of Legends and its there at the loading pages. It's not just about the eye candy of seeing things scroll smoother, but more of the responsiveness and the input of pen pressure with really fasts brush strokes. it's quite hard to explain, as its more of a mechanical aspect of the fluidity between our hands and the responsiveness of the pencil. A14 is great, but knowing that A14X/A15X will be inevitable for the Pros, hmmm.
