bit the bullet an ordered a Philips Hue starter kit with 3rd gen bulbs. crossing my fingers the bulb will work on 220VAC.
Philips Hue bulbs do work in 220VAC with no problem. I think I had mine for over a year now. If only I can get these things easy here in the country I'd have ordered another set.
I have been using 5 Hue Bulbs in my apartment, 1 TP link smart plug on my air-conditioner, and a Logitech Harmony to control my remote controlled devices all tied together via Google Home and Google Assistant on my phone. Everything works great until I get an internet service interruption....I shudder at having to use switches.
Just bought Echo Dot 2nd gen. It's really nice. Alexa tells you a lot. even mathematical computations. I love this gadget. She tells exact time & plays spotify. Only problem is I can't fix the location. She's still locked to the US. I managed to change the time to the Philippine time.
Was hoping to start small on smart home devices with a couple of Xiaomi Mi Smart Socket Plugs but the only available version so far has angular pins "/ \" that aren't 100% compatible with our local power outlets
Has anyone tried the Orvibo smart plug? It's available in Lazada as an "imported from abroad" item. It's much cheaper than the TP-Link plugs & is useable with 220v.
$15 off on the Google Home for Mother's Day. Giving this a try along with the TPLink smart plug and bulb. Will update once i've set it up.
Just got a reply from Amazon that the Orbivo S20 smart plug doesn't work with Amazon Alexa. The Orbivo S25 does work with Alexa. Good thing I didn't buy the S20 version in Lazada as I wanted to pair it with an Echo Dot. Has anyone been able to have the Echo Dot (2nd Gen) recognize the Philippines location?
I ordered this one on Amazon together with an echo dot. Will expect it in 4 weeks after I forwarded it via sea. There are 2 types available now. S25 and S25US with alexa/echo support. I bought 4pcs S25 for timed appliances or outside lighting while the 2-pack S25US is for on-demand appliances like my home theater set up. Over time, I'm also planning to buy Philips Hue and smart switches. I also can't wait for Alexa support for the Sonos system. P.S. If you are looking for feedback, the product page on Amazon has hundreds of reviews for the Orvibo S25
@rdy0329, thanks for the clarifications! Really helps in understanding which one to get. Will probably get the S25US first just so I can tinker around with Alexa's capabilities. Ditto on future support for the Sonos speakers. Also wish that the Philippines could be one of the approved countries for Alexa. I've seen some workarounds on the web & none of them seem too secure to me.
I'd only care for Spotify (+SONOS) and Smart Home integration for most of the echo's use-case. Hacking would only be carried out for changing time zones.
I guess I could set the location to SF & just use the equivalent SF time when I want to use the timer here. Yup, hope that SONOS is soon included for use in Alexa.
Hi! What's your model of your TP Link smart plug? What's the rated capacity of your aircon? I did not know the smart plug can handle an aircon this is great! I also just started with this smart home. Almost the same set up - google home, philips hue (singapore version) bought from a reseller, several tp link and wemo smart plugs, chromecast ultra and audio for the speakers.
I am not sure about the rated capacity of my AC but the TP Link HS-100 has a maximum load of 15Amps. Also, my AC has a mechanical switch. So an AC with a digital power on/off will not work since it will shut off once the power from the plug is disconnected.
Asked a friend to pre-purchase it for me in china, and last week i brought them home with me when i went there.
