Negrense Carlo Ledesma 32, son of Gerry Ledesma and Ramona Coscolluela, won the Best Film Award and a 10,000 - euro prize from the Mini-Movie International Channel at the Short Film Corner of the 2007 Cannes Film Festival for his film "The Haircut".
The film, which tells the story of a barber who is confronted by a bald customer's request for a haircut, was directed by Ledesma who is based in Sydney, Australia. It was produced by Mel Lozano.
The prize money will fund Ledesma's next film "The Last One", half -hour drama he describes as "Run Lola Run meets Collateral."
Ledesma, who was born in Negros, finished his elementary and high school at La Salle Bacolod and his college degree in English Literature at DLSU, his father Gerry, who heads the Philippine Reef and Rainforests Conservation Foundation Inc. and the Negros Forests and Ecological Foundation INc., said yesterday.
The Haircut was Ledesma's graduation film at the University of Sydney College of Arts.
