I'm confused by the statement that the iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad can't multi-task. If multi-tasking means that you can run two or more apps simultaneously, then I think my iPhone does this since I can listen to iTunes while I'm playing games such as Enjoy Daily Sudoku and Scramble 2.
I believe the more accurate statement is the iPhone can't multi-task 2 third party apps because I can't run both of the above-mentioned games simultaneously. But then again, is multi-tasking really practical on small form factor mobile devices? I doubt if one can watch a movie and compose an email given the iPhone's limited screen space. The same goes for the iPad: I don't think its screen is large enough to watch a movie and surf the web at the same time. If multi-tasking is something one does regularly, then a laptop is the mobile device of choice, not the iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad. |
of it's out together with the iPad, without a doubt I would purchase microsoft's baby. the voice recorder app on the 3gs, notes and safari are all native apps. How come they don't allow me to multi-task?
Ok my apologies, the iPhone, iPod touch and the ipad can multi task to a certain limited extent. Unfortunately, it's just that LIMITED. Try this on your iPhone and see how frustrating it gets: on the 11th page of your application window (?) open safari, if you need to write something on your notes app, you press the home button swipe to notes app, open app. If your done with notes, close, swipe to safari open app. Repeat process if you need to open notes whilst your browsing. Lame.
Do you use the voice recorder? I use it during class (lecture is 3 hours long). On playback, the software forces me to stay on the voice recorder app, if I'll open another app, the voice app is terminated. During voice recorded playbacks, the iPhone morphs into a voice recorder and it's other features are muted temporarily(no calls or texting or using the dictionary app while listening to the Voice recorder? =lame). In a fast paced world, multi-taking is a MUST. The software needs to adjust to our needs, sadly apple opted not to.
In yesterdays' unveiling of the "iPad" one apple senior employee (Phil Schiller or Tim cook I can't recall) remarked: "the iPad adjusts to your needs." the irony.
