You can check in the Huawei data card program thing whether you are connected to 3G or to GPRS/EDGE.

After twiddling with settings I'm connected via 3G na. The software was set to use GPRS/EDGE by default. Now I'm hitting 321kbps downstream and 309kbps upstream. My mom wanted to get the USB version of the card so that I could use it with my PB too but she said there were no USB versions available, only PCMCIA.

I've found a local source for USB and ExpressCard HSDPA adaptor. They don't sell to retail, but they can bring in a few units if you guys are interested. Let me know. It's around $250 for the USB Adaptor (Option Globesurfer ICON) and $285 for the Expresscard, VAT exclusive.

ok first of all hello, second of all this thread has been very usefull to me, so thankyou, third of all i dunno why its all dated 2004, didnt all this stuff (globe visibilty) only happen 2006? edit > talaga its the date you joined not posted ..duh.. di ba
anyway fourthly heres the biggy, you know the novatel express card? that all us mac users want globe to suply? (no they are not supplying it yet but i did also call and email) http://www.expansys.com/product.asp?code=141035&tab=2 the question is, is it only for north america and europe frequencies? for example its tri band is Tri-band HSDPA/UMTS - 850/1900/2100 MHz underneath the tech specs on link above....does that mean 850 OR 1900 OR 2100 or is it 850 Mhz all the way to 2100? Hope i havnt lossed you yet, if your still with me read on.... Globes prefered spectrums are 1945-1955 MHz and 2135-2145 MHz radio frequency bands as you can see here http://www.asemep.com.ph/downloads/a...frequencies%22 and so the final question i put to ye is does this render the Novatel Wireless Merlin XU870 3G HSDPA 3.6/7.2 Mbps ExpressCard Obsolete for us mac users here in asia. If the answer is no im gonna buy on right now and sell the free pcmcia card i get from globe. Salamat Po's | ||||||||

Afaik, the XU870 will work with globe's network. It supports all the frequencies that the Globe Huawei card uses and more. I'll let you know how it works when mine arrives in about two weeks time.
