Students crazy about iPod follow the music to Apple laptops
Apple's trendy iPod digital music player, which has revitalized the company, is giving laptop sales a boost during back-to-school season.
Many students, after falling in love with the iPod, are packing for college with new Apple Macintosh computers.
"This is my third student rush season," says Jason Thorpe, a sales associate at the University of Oregon's computer store. "When I started, people wouldn't even look at Macs. Everyone came in wanting a PC. This year, two-thirds of them want Macs."

Reminds me of why I switched to Mac. I wanted the 1st gen 10GB iPod so badly that it made me switch back in June, 2002.

But quite a lot are not. I don't blame, them, though. Would've been nice if seniority ruled

I made the switch because of the iPod as well. It kinda' feels weird syncing my Pod to a PC. ^_^

Same here! Fell in love with Mac OS X and got a PowerBook first, then realized how much iTunes helped me enjoy music again. Then my girlfriend (fiancee now) gave me an iPod for Christmas

One of the reasons students are getting iPods and iBooks/PowerBooks these days, is because of the "Cram and Jam" promo.
Students get great discounts on Powerbooks, for example, at Stanford, students can get the 1.5Ghz 15" PowerBook with the 128MB ATI video card, 1x 512MB SO-DIMM, 5400rpm 80Gb HDD, SuperDrive AND AppleCare for about $2500. THEN get $200 off on an iPod (on the same reciept) with a mail-in rebate.
The PowerBook alone, if you do BTO on the Apple Store website, will run to $3048, that's over $500 in savings, add $200 for the Cram n Jam promi, if you get the iPod, it's over $700 in savings! You get one of the best laptops around, the undisputed best MP3 player.
H
ps. I got my iPod before I got my first PowerBook too.
