Mac OS X World\'s Safest Computing Environment
According to London-based analyst firm, mi2g:
"More and more smart individuals, government agencies and corporations are shifting towards Apple and BSD environments in 2004," according to DK Matai, Executive Chairman, mi2g. "For how long can the truth remain hidden that the great emperors of the software industry are wearing no clothes fit for the fluid environment in which computing takes place, where new threats manifest every hour of every day. There is an accelerating paradigm shift visible in 2004 and busy professionals have spotted the benefits of Apple and BSD because they don't have the time to cope with umpteen flavours of Linux or to wait for Microsoft's Longhorn when Windows XP has proved to be a stumbling block in some well chronicled instances."

No surprise there.
What's surprising is that Linux has replaced Windows as the most breached online computing environment at 65.64% of all recorded hacker attacks according to the study.

hi maryannemoll.
BSD stands for Berkeley Software Design. it's a Unix operating system developed at UC Berkeley, hence the name.
the major BSD "flavors" are BSDI Internet Server (BSD/OS), FreeBSD, NetBSD, and OpenBSD. the heart of Mac OS X, Darwin, is based on FreeBSD.
OpenBSD has had only one security hole in its default installation in more than 8 years. which is why it's considered a very secure OS.

Nice! hehehe.
I still wonder when the time comes that Apple OS X and all BSD flavors are as prominent in the market as Linux and Windows.
Kse kahit na lahat tayo dito OS X users, we still can't deny na minority tayo even to the Linux userbase... I think it just depends what OS has got the world's attention - everything is exploitable... just depends who wants to spend time hack/cracking it (and of course which OS tickle's those hack/crackers' fancy) hehehehe.

Berkeley Software Distribution. UNIX versions developed by University of California at Berkeley.
Mac OS X is based on Darwin. Darwin is based on 4.4BSD.
