Mac OS 9 Finds a Deeper Grave as Power Mac G4s Eliminated

September 15, 2004 - More than two years after Steve Jobs put Mac OS 9 "into the grave" at WWDC, Apple recently removed the last new Mac OS 9-bootable systems it offered. Since the debut of the Power Mac G5, Apple has offered customers in need of booting Mac OS 9 both 1.25GHz and dual-1.25GHz Power Mac G4 (Mirror Drive Door) imots.
These limited production Power Mac G4 systems were removed from dealer price lists in June after updated Power Mac G5 towers were announced but remained available from the online Apple Store. With the debut of the iMac G5, however, the G4 towers have vanished altogether.
