Default iChat AV at 35,000 Feet

    iChat At 35,000 Feet
Was it the first in-air commercial videoconference?

It’s a long flight from Munich to San Francisco, even non-stop. But recently two enterprising Apple product managers cut the distance dramatically with a few at-hand tools: iChat AV, iSight, 17-inch PowerBook G4, a Boeing 777 and an orbiting satellite.

    Read more here.

In a briefing we recently attended, the speaker said that a few other commercial airlines, besides Lufthansa, will be turning their cabins into Wi-Fi Hotspots within the year.

    Ultimate Kewlness

The world is getting smaller every minute.... its just like you never left.

There may be security implications though. A VIP can be visually confirmed on board by a suicide??? ichatter before he "chats" the instruction to shoot down the aircraft.

    Hi Mikaelrules!

Am no Applescript expert but I was crudely able to recreate his status by getting the icon from Zapf Dingbats in Office 2004.

PAL??? The airline who has no in-seat video on long-haul flights? (well, at least not on the last few flights I've taken to the U.S.). The same airline that is still using plastic forks and knives in first class? (whereas others like SQ use stainless steel ones in economy class). They don't even have Airphones in their flights!

    Safe to say, fat chance!
