Creative takes on iPod with $100 million sales push
Computer audio equipment maker Creative Technology plans to spend $100 million in 2005 to market its MP3 players worldwide, in a bid to wrest share from archrival Apple Computer's popular iPod.
"The MP3 war has started, and I am the one who has declared war," Creative Chief Executive Sim Wong Hoo told a media briefing on Wednesday, adding that the United States will get the biggest share of the $100 million budget, followed by Europe and Asia.
Singapore-based Creative is fighting to expand its share of the fast-growing digital music market as its computer sound card business declines.

"I'm planning to spend some serious money--I intend to out-market everyone," Sim said at the launch of the company's new 5-gigabyte hard-disk, palm-size Zen Micro player.

i thinks its better for him to give away mp3 players totalling US$100,000,000 then spending on marketing alone. this way, about 100,000 people will be happy

You gotta give it to those 'poor' Singaporeans !!
That penchant in the Singaporean psyche of "keeping up with the (world) Joneses, i.e., to ALWAYS have to be the 1st to have the latest gadget, the venue for the world launch or premiere showing of the latest watch, or car, or what have you...
...I guess it is an ego displacement thing, to make up for the fact that Singapore has no patrimony, no land, no mountains, no natural resources ... nothing except a lot of shopping, oodles of money and financial expertise + their 'uber guided democracy.'
Methinks likewise, Mr. Hoo is going against his Chinese ancestry and with a lot of verbal cum advertising hooha, is awakening the sleeping dragon that is our beloved Apple & Steve Jobs and is going to throw a lot of good money after bad !!
So, it becomes a contest of 'deeper pockets??' Creative, deeper pockets, I don't think so, if anyone should/can do this is Microsoft's B.G., but the Mac/PC 'cold' wars are over !!!
I know, ... (Spin begins,...) ol'Billy G. has offered 'clandestinely' help to start his own "Sim" video war-game via his proxy, Singaporean Chinese 'uncle' Sim Wrong WHoo ?!?
Yeah, that sounds more 'conspiracyous!':roll:
... hey that will be good for us consumers right, lower prices and more features :beer:
"Let the Games begin !!!"
