Apple posts highest Q4 revenue in almost a decade
iPod music player shipments soar 500% in quarter

OCTOBER 14, 2004 (IDG NEWS SERVICE) - SAN FRANCISCO -- Apple Computer Inc.'s iPod music player continues to help the company grow revenue at dizzying rates, leading to its highest fourth-quarter revenue in nine years, Apple said yesterday.
Revenue for the period that ended Sept. 25 was $2.35 billion, up 37% from the $1.72 billion in revenue recorded during last year's fourth quarter. Analysts polled by Thomson Financial/First Call had expected Apple to record $2.15 billion in revenue.
Apple increased Macintosh shipments by 6% and iPod shipments by an amazing 500% compared with the fourth quarter of last year, the company said. About 2 million iPod music players were shipped during the quarter, Apple said.
