Apple to give its stores a Mini Me look
After dreaming up big plans for its network of retail stores, Apple Computer is starting to think small.
The Mac maker plans to expand its network of retail outlets by creating a mini version of the Apple store. Apple Chief Financial Officer Peter Oppenheimer confirmed on Wednesday's earnings conference call that the company plans to open six of the smaller stores.
Oppenheimer said the smaller stores will allow Apple to reach more people in more places, but did not offer many details.

Wow! Apple Stores at Powerplant and Eastwood?! That's great news!
Whose dealership? (probably PowerMac since they're the only ones that go for malls) :-)

FYI, Apple Retail Stores can be found only in the U.S. The only two international stores are in Ginza and Shinsaibahi Japan. There are rumors circulating that Apple will expand retail operations to Canada. Apple hopes to have 100 retail stores operational by year's end.
What we have here in the Philippines are Apple Centers, which are authorized dealers and officially sanctioned by Apple. They are not owned or operated by Apple.
If ever Apple decides to expand Internationally, expect Europe to come ahead of SE Asia.
If ever Apple decides to expand to Asia (aside from Japan), expect Hong Kong, Singapore. Thailand and Malaysia to come before us.

Some interesting stuffzes about these mini stores (from MacWorld ):
- "...the new store design was the same size as retail outlets in airports, and suggested that airport-based Apple retail outlets could be convenient for travelers wishing to buy iPods and other accessories."
- "Most uniquely, between the front and back sections of the store are two touch-screen-based kiosks, embedded in the walls, that allow customers to scan the bar codes of the products they wish to buy. Once they scan a product, an image of it will appear on the screen. Customers will then insert a credit card to pay for them, and walk out of the store, all without interacting with a clerk."
Looks like Apple intends to revolutionize the retailing experience as well. Don't know about you but most Apple Store clerks I've had the necessity to conversumate with have been either necrotic or neurotic.
Being able to walk in, get your stuffeses, and walk out -- all without any dreadful store clerk interaction would be quite inviting.
