Read Paul's rant on what's wrong with Windows Vista.

Now they have a really major problem: vista is not turning out the way it was promised and fixing it will take a major overhaul that could take even longer than the five years its taken them to make Vista.
Remember, Apple acquired the foundations of OS X in 1997 and the Next foundation on which it was built began in 1986 and released a useable *nix based operating system in 2001 (10.1 which was the first useable version of OS X).
Even if Microsoft starts overhauling Windows now, how long will it take for a rebuilt Windows to be made available?
You really need a company like Apple to make major paradigm shifts forward (i.e. dumping 68K for PPC, dumping Mac Classic for *nix based Mac OS X, jumping to Intel, etc.), and not be like what Paul Thurrot calls:
"The Microsoft that forgot about customers in its blind zeal to harm competitors."

"Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life.
Don’t be trapped by dogma, which is living with the results of other people’s thinking.
Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice, heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become.
Everything else is secondary." --Steve Jobs I never tire reading this over and over again. Redmond, you hear that? :lol
