Imac MultiTouch?
iPhone dropped by $200, Logic Pro by half, iPod multitouch.. what's Apple doing nowadays? a new age of Apple products?
well this is my theory, inside Apple they've combined minds resulting to new product, it could be the new iMac MultiTouch and for us musicians this could be the best hardware to look forward to. imagine, tinkering a small button to the best frequency you could ever achieve, panning from left to right, etc. as if you are doing your own project in a big studio with your fingers.
i've seen people in the industry have this some kind of tablet pcs w/ the use of wacom pen. Imagine your fingers doing multitasking for the perfect mix. accurate and simply awesome...
Designers, Graphic artists, Photographers etc will surely be happy with this kind of technology...
not to mention, a new OS to support the new MultiTouch easily...
well, maybe i'm just foolish to think this could happen. what say you?...

Re: Imac MultiTouch?
Those who deal in the visual arts probably would rather not use their fingers to do the pointing. They'd prefer something more in the line of the wacom cintiq, a lcd-pen tablet hybrid. Finger oil is also going to get in the way of visual applications.
But what you have in mind is definitely practical for real-world emulated applications like having a mixer board on-screen that one can interact with using your fingers.

Agree, especially if you are working on minute details, your fingers wont do much, that's why most artist prefer to use an instrument instead of using their own hands, aside from Pacheco of course.

no way man. using your fingers is the next thing. sure it will get oily but there i a whole new interface to be experimented with.
i can imagine some studio session with the recording artists just using the touch screen. getting food stains, alcoholic beverage splashes, and (who knows what illicit drug/substance) what not during a marathon recording session.
actually that would be a horror story to any OC mac owner. yeah maybe there will be use for some sort of instrument or tablet. ha ha.

i don't think it multitouch iMac will work or be very ergonomic. Imagine doing some work via touch screen. You're arms will get tired easily.

the iMac touch would sell but it would be a nightmare to clean.

Re: Imac MultiTouch?
ofcourse it has ups and downs.... the only point there is, you buy something for your desire or use. so like choosing which cake to buy, birthday? anniversay? wedding? and so on.

Some controls work better depending on what they will control and how you want to control them. Sometimes volume is controlled by knobs, sometimes sliders, sometimes rocker switch, sometimes clickwheel, etc.
With a flat screen, it's hard sometimes to have a point of reference on where the controls are. You will have to be constantly looking at the screen controls to know where they are. In the example of a mixing board, sometimes the cue is not only auditory but also visual so you need to be looking at the performers with your hands on the controls and adjusting accordingly. Very hard to do with screen controls.
Even touch typists need to have that small indicator on the "F" and "J" keys to know where the home row is without having to look.
This is one of the reasons I'm not sold on the iPhone yet. There's no home row indicator, unlike the Treo 650 which has a small bump on the f key to give me an idea of where my thumbs are on the keyboard, without having to look at it.
