The good: Its coming
The bad: Its not here yet. Why? Anyone who's seen the heatsink from a Power Mac G5 knows that it would not fit in a notebook computer. This is the challenge that faces Apple (and IBM) as it tries to move its Powerbook line to the G5.

Don't hold your breath hehehe.
Seriously, I think it should come out at the latest, this time next year. Earliest would be at the Macworld 2005 (San Francisco Jan 10-14).
For my graphic design work which consists of layouts, label and logo design, the current Powerbooks are more than enough for my needs. I think most would agree on the other hand that if your work is more video or audio related, nothing beats the expandability and relatively better performance of a desktop computer.
My point is if you need the laptop now, buy it now (and hope that you'll make enough money out of it to be able to buy the Powerbook G5s when they arrive)

If you'll get the PowerBook G5s wait for the Revision B models. The Revision As normally have problems

just did that. a request from the mods: while this isn't the spelling bee, and while we all make spelling and typo errors while typing on the run, please check at least the titles. it's probably no big deal, but it helps when people make searches.

Hi, don't know if you guys have seen this but might be interesting:
http://www.powerpage.org/cgi-bin/Web...y?newsID=12444
A couple of excerpts:
PowerBook G4 Speed Bumps
The current line of PowerBook G4s is being considered for one more round of updates before the form factor is mothballed in favor of a new G5 design. 1.8 and 2.0GHz PowerBook G4s are being tested and are walking around Apple's Cupertino campus innocently disguised in the current Aluminum PowerBook G4 enclosure. Test mules have 256MB VRAM and a faster video bus.
PowerBook G5
The PowerBook G5 will be cooled with a combination of active and passive cooling systems. Core temperatures are currently running pretty high, causing some lockups during testing in the new smaller and lighter enclosure. The fans are also new high-volume, slow-turning units. The keyboards get hot, so engineers are testing a new type of insulating tape (used on the space shuttle electronic components) that covers the underside of the keyboard protecting your fingers from getting burned.
