Watermark on pictures ...
I saw this "open letter" to Filipino photographers in a Tumblr blog by a certain Lisa Chaves:
An Open Letter to Filipino photographers:
You’re all talented, really. I know that most of you just want to protect your work but please stop photoshopping really huge watermarks on them. If you’re going to use watermarks, make them unnoticeable. Most of your watermarks ruin the good photo and it’s really frustrating. I’ve seen a ton of nice photos that I’d like to place on the Pinoy radar but I can’t help but be a little picky because I get too distracted looking at your watermark.
I’m looking forward in seeing your future works!
Kind regards,
Lisa
So, what do you guys think?

imho, one should not impose but i agree with her; make your watermark discrete.
personally i don't watermark my photos. i just upload low res images on the net.

I personally hate watermarks on photos. It does nothing but draw your attention away from the photograph. I also don't really get why people put watermarks.
This is all of course my opinion.

I used to put watermarks on my photos but not anymore. If people would like to use my photos, by all means.

She has a really good point. BUT you can't blame us/them, cause sometimes people becomes quite abusive and start to claim the pictures like their own
However, I agree that the watermarks should be decent enough. mine is small and transparent, you won't see it until you look closely to the picture. and its on the bottom left so its not that noticeable.
Watermarks for me are for security reasons. Its not easy to put that off. V^^V
btw thats just my humble opinion!
im just a beginner, and i always put watermarks on them

I also watermark my photos for security.
This is to avoid other people from using my photos without my permission.
If another person/business wants to use my photo, they can contact me through e-mail and I can send them a clean high-res version of my photo.

Re: Watermark on pictures ...
My take on this.
I agree to some extent that some photos are nearly becoming more of a photoshop graphic artwork resulted by LARGE watermarks. Rule of the thumb I guess it to keep it very minimal so its not an eyesore.
On the other hand, Philippine Laws on copyrights isn't yet matured. In fact, a monumental case of photo plagiarism involving a major daily and a travel photographer is still not resolved. It's hard to campaign for copyright protection when one does not walk the talk.
I'd rather have some Lisas complaining than seeing my work stolen. I'll removed mine when Getty or Corbis ditch their watermarks.
