I'd start with a Manfrotto then a Gitzo.

Do you want it in wood, steel, carbon fiber or aluminum

How heavy of a tripod you want

How heavy is your camera gear

What kind of tripod head do you need for your camera.

Rule of thumb is if you have 2kg worth of gear do not buy a tripod with max capacity of 2kg. Leave some extra capacity for the sake of stability and future upgrade.

you need to help us with a few details for us to give a good recommendation.

    1. gear (load)
    2. usage
    3. budget

a gitzo is a pretty hefty investment. you'll probably end up spending up to 30k for gitzo legs, and you still need to get a head for it. however, if your tripod needs are pretty extreme like putting them up in shallow seawater, hiking up a mountain, etc. then a gitzo is well worth it.

manfrotto is also a bit pricey compaired to the other brands but not to the extreme end like gitzo. again you need to figure out what sort of use it will go through.

some of the other brands include benro, velbon, slik, etc. these have their own strengths and of course budgetary considerations.

    Actually, I have no idea

Hmm, just a hobbyist. I want a tripod that I could bring when I travel.

    For the weight, it will probably mount a D60 + SB600 + 18-200 lens.

I use a set up in a weight class similar to yours. if you're just looking to get one for certain shots and won't be using it on a daily basis, i'd suggest you start with a sturdy generic tripod. There's one in hidalgo that costs 800 and can be compared to the 2K Giottos model.
This happens. This is an anagram.
