You can try Tokina 11-16mm. It's tack sharp. Although it's within the same price range of Sigma 10-20mm nga lang. You can also go for Tokina 12-24mm. Saw some second-hand units in TPC for around 19k only.

Nothing beats a Nikkor lens on a Nikon body IMHO.

During the film days, the wisdom was "Why buy a Nikon body if you will use non-Nikon glass on it?"
I don't know if this is still true now.
I have a Sigma 10-20 (Nikon mount). I rarely use it.

Re: Suggestions for a wide angle lens
It is indeed good if you can afford nikkor glass, but if you are on a budget, a tokina 12-24 (version 1 or 2, the latest version has added coating and a motor) is the next best option. Some even argue that it might be better than a nikkor of comparable range. What is important is to recognise the weaknesses and look for ways around it. Having used the version 1 Tokina, you should watch out for flare and CA. Other than that you will be extremely happy with it.
You can check DPreview.com and photozone.de for in-depth lens reviews.

Here is the sample shot of 10-24mm Nikkor
I just add Vignette and under exposed it a little.

In my humble opinion bang for the back for 11-16mm Tokina sharpness close to 14 to 24 f2.8 Nikkor lenses accroding to forum feedbacks from flicker it was really nice in low lights at 2.8.
I wanted to post a pic of my good friend but hindi pwede kasama sa photo contest and I have to ask permission pa.
Its really nice but iba pa rin color rendering ng Nikon glass na UWA most photographers colors of 11-16 mm and 12-24 of Tokina are a little bit pale without using custom picture controls or by default setting on camera compare with Nikon by default settings.
Most importantly you have to be more meticulously in testing on getting Tokina especially UWA because an ample of shooters getting a bad copy compare again to a Nikon ones.
But its the best UWA on DX format to date according to reviews from different sites and forums in terms of speed, sharpness and color .
Beating the10-24mm Nikkor in terms of speed and sharpness according to those who already been used it and also in my observation comparing all the pics taken by my friends in prints.
I'm also about to buy this needing it in interior shoot and upcoming wedding of my cousin and travel abroad.
IMHO- HTH

Nikon lenses are usually for keeps... but if you can't afford it then there is always Sigma, Tokina and Tamron. No use in forcing yourself to break the bank just for the Nikon brand but if you can afford to wait and save, I'd choose Nikon lenses.
Nikon lenses are like diamonds... the others are like the wife... replaceable... hehehe

Are you talking about the Nikkor 12-24 f/4 or the Nikkor 14-24 f/2.8? There's no Nikkor 12-24 f/2.8.

Tokina 12 - 24, half the price of the Nikkor, but comparable results, heck, some people say it's even better.

Re: Suggestions for a wide angle lens
i'm sorry but you didn't mention a budget for your lens. i think it would help us make recommendations.
if you can spend up to $900 or so why not consider the Nikkor 12-24 f4. for less than a hundred more than the 10-24 you get a fixed f4 rather than a variable one. that's been the workhorse wide zoom of many dx users.
