    Default Marketplace Misfortune(s)

I don't know if there's a thread like this already or if this is allowed to be posted here. Mods, please delete if necessary.

Anyway I'm just curious if any PhilMUG member experienced any bad deals from the marketplace here - I guess that's what the feedbacks are for. This site is well moderated that's why I feel safe trading here but still we can't really be too safe or too sure.

Well, let me tell my story from long ago. Back in 2004, I was a newbie here lurking and back reading until I finally gave in and got my first iPod from the marketplace section - it was a 4th gen still under warranty for 12k. When I plugged it into my windows machine, I just heard the hard disk noise and a sad mac face on the screen. I immediately sent it over to the apple store at greenbelt 1, (was that microwarehouse?) they have a great support staff there. I showed my printed receipt and they promised to take a look at it and give me feedback. I got the replacement unit in two weeks (thanks Apple!)

Right up to this point I thought the seller was very helpful since he provided me with the receipt for warranty, we were constantly emailing and testing and he even visited me at my office to check on the status of the iPod. It was our next deal that went bad - when he decided to buy my Sony CLIE T665 - which I posted for swap/sale at the marketplace. He picked it up from my office but when he was about to pay he said that he forgot to bring enough cash so he was gonna go down the building and take some out from the ATM (I was at PhilAm building at Paseo back then). I was quite busy then and too trusting I guess so I just said sure just come back up, you can take the item with you.

That was the last I saw or heard from him. I couldn't contact him through email or mobile phone or yahoo messenger or PhilMUG messages. He vanished into thin air with my Clie. I sort of ghosted from PhilMUG after that and basically just refrained from online commerce for a while. But now I'm glad that there are many rules in place at the marketplace and even a feedback system.

So I just want to thank the Mods for their vigilance and I hope this mishap doesn't happen to anyone else here in PhilMUG.

    Default Re: Marketplace Misfortune(s)

I believe this is a welcome thread to further amplify (or qualify) the numbers posted on the members/sellers feedback score.

I enjoin other posters though, to keep the thread simple by contributing to the discussion by simply adding their ACTUAL experiences and NOT editorializing the comments previously posted; i.e., NO comments like, "That's too bad" or "That sucks" or "Seller should be banned" and the like. The parties/members complained about may chime in to defend themselves or to explain their selling or store policies or agreements with the buyers, or aggrieved customers.

In the interest of fairness, both parties to the transaction are welcome to post their comments. PhilMUG itself will not intervene nor adjudicate in the negotiations or disagreements. This thread merely provides an avenue by which issues can be raised and settled by the parties themselves. The thread will also serve to enlighten members of their rights or caveats when dealing with individual sellers or established stores and resellers.

This thread will be tightly monitored and wayward comments will be immediately deleted.
