flash diffusers

Hey guys

I want to buy a diffuser for my Yongnuo YN465 speedlite to soften the shadows. I'm considering either one of these two.

My concern is would these diffusers still do the job when I shoot vertically, specifically portraits. On Wednesday I have to take photos of a model wearing clothes my friend designed for her class. The shoot will be outdoors though but I'm also thinking of the future where I may have to shoot indoors where harsh shadows on walls behind the subject is unflattering.
