Thumbs down D60 Built-In FLash NOT WORKING : HELP!!!

It just stopped working in any setting requiring flash. I checked all the settings naman and everything's okay except for the flash itself.

Does anyone know where to bring it and any estimate on how much it would cost me? Also, if I don't have it fixed - are speedlights my next option? Thank you all!

Where'd you buy it? And how long has it been with you? The first suggestion would be to bring it back to the place where you bought it.

If it's still under warranty, bring it back to where you bought it.
If warranty has lapsed, bring the unit to CDSC - www.columbiadigital.net

I got it from my sister a few months back. It was purchased in Australia and di na sya covered ng warranty :/

So, if it's too expensive to have it fixed, expensive as in, would cost a speedlight (mga konti na lang eh speedlight na lol), okay lang ba, not to have it fixed and opt for external flash?

but of course, will still bring it to columbia digital I just don't know cos dami kong nabasa sa net about them, sometimes they cant fix a unit daw pag hindi nila kaya or it takes sooo long before you get it back.

anyway.... im thinking of the worst case scenario na kasi e. So hello Speedlight? err?

If the repair's going to cost you somewhere in the vicinity of P6,000, then it's prolly better for you to buy a Nikon SB-400.

At least with that you can bounce off the ceiling. But since it doesn't pan, no portrait shots lang (unless you bounce off the wall, not recommended).

I'm guessing that the D60 is already CLS capable if that so, if you need your external Flash to be off-cam you still need to have your built-in flash fixed, in order for you to take advantage of it's features.

Either way you still need to get it fixed, and please do inform us of any updates so fellow muggers who will have the same predicament in the future (hoping not me . . ) will have an idea too.

Columbia, indeed, has had a lot of bad press and a good part of it was well-earned so much so that a group of Nikon enthusiasts/users/pros have had to inform Nikon Japan of it. Whatever they are right now is already an improved version. Some people have said (the operative word here is "some") that they have gotten good service from Columbia but this was borne out of a long standing (read: decades-long) relationship with them. On the other hand, some people have just opted to take their units to Singapore since that's where the Columbia technicians get help anyway when they can't figure out what to do.

Have it checked and see how they treat you. If they don't give you good service, then it may be time to move on. If you're willing to try, do give Gilbert Roland Cruz a call at 0919-2591326. He works from home in Sta. Mesa and is a favorite among many professionals. He will at least give you a very straight answer as to what you can and can't do. If parts need to be replaced however, you may be stuck with Columbia.

One other avenue you can try is Camerahaus. This is the same establishment that used to just say "Canon" on the fifth floor of Megamall across the Mega Trade Hall. They now actually sell Canon stuff, Pentax (perhaps this explains why the Pentax showroom in Megamall has gone the way of the Dodo), Olympus and Nikon. See what they think. Oh, and there is also a Nikon store in Greenhills now. It's on the second floor of Virra Mall. Check that out.

Your last option is to have the camera sent back to Australia where Nikon service should be better than it is here.

    @Ohmme,

The Nikon D60 doesn't have CLS.

Thanks Rastaman for this info! But having the built-in flash repaired will increase it's resale value too.

I had my old D80's sensor cleaned at CDSC and when it came out, the sensor had more dust than when it went it. They tried to clean it 2 more times but it didn't improve so I got a refund.
That same month I went to HK and tried the new Nikon Service Center in Langham Place, Mongkok.
They cleaned my sensor and replaced my dirty focus screen in 1 hour - for even less than what CDSC charges - Paid around HKD200 total.

After the sensor cleaning, they even asked me to check the output on a 22-inch LCD screen! Wow! While waiting I was also able to play with a working D3(it was new back then)+600mm lens. To top it off, they even gave me a Nikon ballpen. Hehe...

I highly recommend Nikon HK over CDSC if you can bring your D60 there.
