    Default Canon Lenses

    Hi Guys,

I'm pretty new to photography and I wanted to seek advice on what lenses I should get for the following purposes:

    1. General Purpose (Daily/Walkabouts)

    2. Portraits/Fashion Photography

    3. Still Life/Macro

    4. Landscape/Street Photography

Well that's it for my first thread here.

    Thanks!

    P.S. I'm using a Canon 7D.

what's your kit lens on your 7D? for gen. purpose or walk around lens, i suggest the 18-200mm its wide and has a nice zoom; for portraits i use 50mm f/1.4, try the 85mm also; for landscapes i have the 10-22mm and for macro get the 100mm f/2.8 macro lens... HTH....

These questions are best answered in photography forums. It's hard to post lens choices without setting a budget first. If you have a lower budget, then you can try going for 3rd party lenses like Sigma or Tamron. Initial suggestions all canon lenses from me:

    1. General Purpose - 18-55 kit lens will do, for more range get 18-135 or 18-200, more budget 24-70 2.8 24-105 f4

    2. Portraits - the fast lenses are best 35 f2, 35 1.2, 50 1.8, 50 1.2, 85 1.8, 85 1.2, 135 f2 or zooms like 70-200 f2.8

    3. Macro - Canon 60 or 100 2.8 macro

    4. Landscape - wide angle zooms 16-35 2.8 or 17-40 f4, ultrawide 10-22

I still suggest that you join local pinoy forums like DPP and Pipho where there are more discussions about photography.

    Default Canon Lenses

You mentioned you're new to photography. I suggest learning and practice with just the kit lens first. The 7D comes with the 17-85 if I'm not mistaken, that covers the general purpose focal length. If you bought just the body only, you can pick up an 18-55 for cheap.

I suggest you practice first with your kit lens before buying new lenses for specific purposes. But since you asked these are my suggestions on specific areas.

    1. General Purpose (Daily/Walkabouts) - 24-70mm f/2.8L or 24-105mm F/4L

    2. Portraits/Fashion Photography - 50mm f/1.8 <-- very cheap!

    3. Still Life/Macro - I don't do macro so I don't know. Haha

    4. Landscape/Street Photography - 10-22mm is the best choice.

    Hi Guys!

I have the 18-135mm Kit Lens. Well I'm new but I've actually played around with the camera and lens a lot already.

Read a lot of stuff as well, and yes, I've seen the lenses you've shared in the stuff I've read.

Also joined the forums you guys shared. Thanks!

Get a prime lens...50mm f1.4 or a 35mm...practice with composition..the thing with zoom lenses is you tend to procrastinate--stand in one location, zoom in and zoom out vis-a vis a fixed lens where you challenge yourself and use your foot and body to find angles and nice compositon..
