I'm torn, and i need opinions from other people (yet again). Do you think it's a good idea to get a touch screen digicam? the Sony Cybershot T50 in particular. Or get the W100 Cybershot instead?
Many thanks!
happy new year!

not for me... i have sweaty palms. hehehe! if you buy one, get a screen protector for the lcd to avoid scratching it.
Got to tinker with a T50 during the holidays.
To keep its screen clean, would use a stylus. Had a 3M cleaning cloth w/ me as well. Would also take mark_17's advice re: getting a screen protector.

You might want to consider this other Sony digicam. I didn't like the boxy design of the T50 so I recently bought the DSC N2 which is also priced closely to the T50. I gotta say, its a pretty sweet camera. Even has manual controls if I wanted to control the shutter speed and aperture. Can even do slide shows with several transitions straight from the camera to a TV complete with mp3 soundtrack you can upload ala iPhoto. Bought it in HK for about 20k at Fortress. Best value deal package already came with a screen protector, 1 gig memory card and small tripod. You definitely need a screen protector. I was initially skeptical about the touch screen too, but it turns out to be very responsive. Much like a PDA screen. It even comes with a stylus so I can put simple graphic designs on pics. What a girlie featureIt sells locally at Hidalgo for about 23k something I think. Pictures look great too, even in low light situations.

i usually have to use a camera wearing leather gloves... i already find it a problem using small digicams... a touch screen would likely be worse...

if it is not a do or die buy for you, I suggest you wait and see for the reviews.
And ask for experiences with local sony support.
If you decide to get one, make sure you get an extended warranty

yes, that would be nice on a digicam (though i'd still prefer canon for digicams). i love the touch screen feature though on my sony handycam pc-109, been using it over 2 years now and it's still as responsive as before.
Hi macychic! Naturally, a touch screen makes things a lot simpler. And of course, there's also the "cool" factorI toyed with a T50 in Hong Kong just recently and I'll have to say that the idea of a touch screen digicam takes some getting used to (after years upon years of using buttons, hehe). In the usual button format, you can make selections without having to change "hand/thumb positions" as most buttons like the directional buttons are within thumb reach. With the touch screen format, unless you have ample thumb/finger length and dexterity, you have to free one hand in order to make selections efficiently.
Nevertheless, once you get the hang of it, it's a joy to use. Making menu selections or selecting pictures to view is easier. Just tap directly and that's it; no need to press a button repeatedly. A convenient analogy would be the old cellphones where you rely on pressing arrow buttons repeatedly with an occasional "OK" or "Back" vis-a-vis the PDAs or SmartPhones where you simply tap ü. Very straightforward!
Of course, touch screens are relatively more fragile as compared to regular screens. Thus, extra care has to be exercised in order for them to remain accurately responsive. Aside from protecting it from bumps and falls, a good screen protector is highly recommended... especially if you're OC like me and you hate scratches and smudges, hehehe...
I say go for it!![]()
