Default Will you upgrade your mac\'s processor?

i'm actually saving for a DUAL 1.8GHz processor for my quicksilver.

i would like to know from you which is better:

upgrade my mac to the MAX

    or

i'll save up for a new mac instead.

    thanks!

I have a dual 1.25Ghz MDD Powermac G4. The Ram is almost maxed out at 1.75GB (max is 2GB in 2 slots). I may get a faster Superdrive but I don't need to.

Powermacs with AGP mobos are versatile. You can add PCI cards and there's room for at least 2 internal hard drives and 2 optical drives.

Upgrading your Quicksilver processor is up to you.

ive already upgraded the processor on my 9600 four times, from the original 200mhz 604e -> 266 g3 -> 450 g3 -> 500 g4 -> 800 g4. and its still pretty spiffy if you ask me. still kicking along doing light layouting and now acting more as a storage and media server for my other macs. now looking forward to upgrading the quicksilver sometime this year. btw: i get all my upgrades from ebay, since buying new isnt really practical these days.

If you have the money go for the upgrade. I remember the Apple site story regarding the making of Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow. The creator worked on a really slow Mac at first but eventually, when he refined his project, he moved on to the latest and greatest Powermacs available.

As long as you like what you're doing with it and you don't have a deadline then it doesn't matter.

I would if I could but I couldn't since all my Macs are mobile so I'll opt for a new one.

Now that you bring it up...I've upgraded every single mac I've owned...my first, a Mac Plus, I upgraded with a Brainstorm kit to a whopping 16mhz, In later years I would upgrade my Powermac 8100 with a Sonnet G4-400 kit, then my Power Tower pro with a G3-400...then my BW to a G4-600 and yes...I too am saving up to upgrade my Quicksilver...upgrading is more satisfying.....

for some reason, upgrading is very fulfilling knowing your mac can still "keep up" with more modern models and finding ways to tweak performance from both the hardware front and software... a skill that will eventually find many uses when buying a new mac. for sentimental reasons i cant seem to pry myself away from my 9600, it still works and decidedly speedy when running os 9 and most of my audio studio apps. buying a new mac feels more like bringing an outsider into the family  i believe others feel the same way. eventually the 9600 and quicksilver will 'age' and will probably not run anymore modern applications, but when i think of it, the 8 years that the 9600 and the 3 years (and counting) for the quicksilver has given to me would not be possible without upgrades. try doing that with your mini...

By next year am planning to upgrade my 450mhz Cube with dual 1.4Ghz one. Just waiting for the prices of G4 chips to finally go down.

yeah... i fell sorry for my mac if i have it "disposed".

actually, i was thinking of selling it already and buy a new mini. but for some sentimental reason (for being the first mac i've had) i've decided to keep as long as upgrades are available and up until i can't add "something" to it. only then i will buy a new mac.
