Will you still buy an Apple G4/G5 even if Intel-based Macs are due in '07?
I've created this poll because analysts speculate that Apple's decision to switch to Intel based processors will hurt its computer sales for the next two years. They say there'll be a freeze on buying. Would you still buy a non-Intel Apple computer?

Let's say I had the money now, yeah i'd buy a G4/G5 Mac. Why? because by the time 2007 comes the Mac i bought now will be two years old and will be at the end of it's life cycle. Plus if i really need it now then why wait? 2 years is too long to wait.

I'm using a late model maxed-out 1.2 Ghz Dual G4. My primary use for it is pushing pixels in Photoshop & designing for print and the web––not exactly bleeding edge stuff compared to video editing or 3d rendering. So I think it would be prudent for me to wait for PowerMacs w/ Intels inside, probably safer to wait for the 2nd generation machines even.
Currently all my apps are the current versions and they all run fine. I might reconsider though if the next versions (Universal Binaries) of these apps offer a significant increase in performance, which I doubt since PS and Dreamweaver are currently based on Carbon.

I want Apple to release a bumped-up Mac Mini w/ at least 64MB video by December. If so, I'm buying. I'm not expecting 1st gen Intel Macs to be worry-free when they come out anyway.

At first I was hesitant to push through with my plan to buy a PowerMac G5 later this year. Now after recovering from Steve's announcement and reading information from key Mac web sites, I will continue my purchase but move it after the launch of the Intel Macs.
Prices of the PowerMac G5s will surely go down after the launch of the Intel Macs. It will be the best time to buy a PowerMac G5 which I can use for so many years.

I just ordered another Mini for the office yesterday.
I don't give a rats bottom what processor is in it. I want a computer that will run OS X now. It's what I can do with it that's important.
Those who were around when Macs shifted from 68k to PPC will remember the FAT binaries. It's not a big deal. We run all sorts of unix programs on a variety of platforms and it's the compiler (GCC) that enables the programs to be easily ported from one platform to another.
I'm sure the potential switchers out there will think 2x, but for those who actually buy Macs because they need them in their lives to improve it will not bat an eyelash and get the Mac they want because they need it now.
I do forsee that Mac owners who really use them, but don't really make money off them dumping their PPC based Macs before June 06. You can bet I will be in line buying them for a song because I don't consider these people die-hard fans.
For the retailers, I do think you guys should project a downturn in hardware sales from Jan 2006 till the official release of the InteliMacs.

I would buy and recommend the purchase of G4 Macs, either Mac Minis or portables, but I would be hesitant to buy a G5.
64-bit may be the future, but its no longer likely to happen on the G5.
Apple will be focussing its efforts on the Intel migration, and the G5 will perform just like a G4 albeit with a RAM limit above 4GB.

Actually, I just did. I bought a new Mac Mini for my college bound kid. Hopefully the new MacIntels won't bear the "Intel Inside" sticker...
