4G iPod or iPod mini
Apple just announced the 4G iPod which is scheduled to be officially launched today and they'll be selling the iPod mini around the world by this Saturday. So what would you get? The 4G iPod or the iPod mini?
Sidenote: I'm surprised that they're not selling 60GB iPod as Toshiba earlier mentioned.

4G for me.
But as mentioned by some other muggers:
I want mine with color (silver) or an aluminum finish please. Also, I'm waiting for the time when the iPod gets to the 80G capacity or even more. I may just be able to use it as my target disk for my movie projects.

Just got my 3g this month and I will definitely stick to it for the meantime.
the mini is nice in terms of size but still short of capacity for me.
If I did not own a new 3gen ipod, I would get the 4th gen.

I really like the form-factor of the Mini but after having been using the higher-capacity iPod for a while now, I think there's no turning back for me. I feel that I'm free to add all the music I could want, I have about 6GB of music now, which wouldn't have fit in the Mini. I also like the fact that I can transfer some rarely used files over to the iPod (like iDVD projects and music videos).

Maybe at a later time.
While only the 20 GB & 40 GB 4G iPods will be available soon, don't be surprised if, down the road, Apple does launch a 60 GB version.
According to one story, "However, Toshiba Corp. announced in June that they are planning to launch a 60GB version of its 1.8-inch hard disk drive in the coming months and has already found a customer in Apple.
Toshiba said at the time that they had already received an order from Apple and were shipping 350,000 of the 1.8-inch drives per month to Apple for use in the iPod."
Something to keep in mind.

i got my blue mini last may and I'm fairly satisfied with it. When I decided to get one, I reasoned 8-10 hours battery life would not allow me to play 15-40 gigs of music. Currently I have 666 songs in it (which accdg to itunes should last 1.9 days) and I only listen to a handfull repeatedly. So if you're like me, I'd be inclined to just transfer songs I like to listen for the week from itunes to ipod, and have another set when you feel like listening to new ones.
Don't like the 2-sec gap between songs though coz I have some mixed tunes. But I guess they're common among ipods.
Oh yeah with 666 songs I have a hard time scrolling through songs. Can't imagine scrolling through 10,000 songs. Either have a fixed playlist, or make your mac your songs server and your mini the "playlist of the week" and change the list on your pod weekly.

I'm starting to see the value of the iPod and the Mini. iPods are for folks who have rather large music collections or would want a compact way to transfer gigabytes of data w/o the need for optical drives. Those who preffer Minis have smaller or a select library and more likely than not wouldnt use it to transfer data.
Too bad Apple didnt decide to make a MAXI edition to the Mini in the form of colored iPods. I'd also like to try the Mini interface. Tried the 3G interface but it doesnt jell well with me.

I have almost 40GB worth of music stored in a FW HD. I have a 3G 40GB but I've been testing the mini for the past few weeks.
Which do I use more? The mini!
I don't store data in the mini, just music, and it's usually filled to the brim with songs. All I have to do is select/deselect playlists in iTunes, depending on my mood.
I've come to prefer the mini over the 3G primarily because of the size. Next to that is the durability. Both make the mini easier to handle.
I'm buying the mini and selling my 3G soon. The 4G I will consider only when it goes up to 60GB.

Good idea. In a perfect world, there is only one iPod--the mini--with gobs of memory. Its design can't get any better. Next time I get an iPod is only when the mini gets more storage.
