Default A Worried Mom: The "Made in China" Scare

As a mother of two young girls who chew on almost anything they can lay their hands on, I am now very conscious about "Made in China" products that have been declared to be unsafe because of high lead and formalin content. Mattel has recalled some of the accessories for its Barbie dolls. Just recently, somebody said a popular liquid seasoning has been removed from the market. When we were in McDonald's last weekend, I asked the store manager if the ponies that came with their Happy Meals were China-made and she said no. When we got the toys, there in very legible letters was the phrase "Made in China."

This is not to advocate a total ban on everything made in China. I just want to be informed about the products that have been definitely banned, and those that we should be wary about because they are in the process of being investigated for containing life-threatening ingredients.

I try to be conscious about my kids' health. For one week now, I just make them bring water to school -- no juices or chocolait. So far, they're ok. This may take the fun out of being a kid, but hey, I don't want them ending up obese or diabetic at a very young age.

Please list down (with pics if possible) the products that have so far been banned from the shelves for the info of mothers (whether Mac or PC users ) out there.

Kindly move this thread to wherever it is supposed to be if this is not its proper forum.

    Constant Vigilance!!!

I am a father of a almost 2 year old girl and I would like to protect her from potentially dangerous items.
There are two things in life that you should do to be successful. 1) Do not share everything you know.

Anyone can grab a Tiger by it's balls, but it takes a real MAN to squeeze.

As far as I know, only Mattel toys and some China made candies.

How come when we were young the world seems to be oblivious to these problems and yet we have grown up to be such fine men and women? Of course we no longer bite our new toys, they already come with a bite.

As a parent (see avatar) and a consumer, I think this is simply a wake up call to Buy Filipino. Most of the time, locally made products may be more expensive than China-made ones but I'll gladly pay the extra few pesos just to assure the safety of my kid.

Hi, Nin. Thanks for the link.

Please read this latest news: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/20903731/

Now it's design flaws by Mattel, not manufacturing flaws by the Chinese manufacturers, that's blamed for the recall. Ano ba talaga, kuya??? Nalilito, nalilito . . .

Im a concerned sari sari store vendor and I noticed that some shampoo in sachets (a popularly advertised brand) have formaldehyde in their formulation. No wonder your hair would look like its . . . . . .

We stopped selling the shampoo after one customer pointed it out to us. Bad timing pa nung sinabi nya, kasi maraming bumubili. Kaya pang dogs na lang muna yun.
