Hi Jackfrost,
Could you elaborate on "can't play the wmv3 format"?
What do you do with the file? Do you simply double-click it? Have you tired changing the "Open With" setting in the file's "Get Info" panel? Have you tried running Windows Media Player first and then doing a manual open of the file from the Media Player menu?
What is the exact error message (if any) that appears?
Goodluck,
Christian

wmv3? Whats that? Windows Media Video 3? parang mali ata a. I've never heard of such a format. Futhermore, the extension is wrong. There should only be 3 characters. I believe you need to rename the extension of the file to just .WMV in order for Windows Media Player to open it properly.

WMV3 refers to the Windows Media 9 format.
You are either trying to:
Open a windows media 9 file with a .wmv extension, in which the latest version of Windows Media Player for Mac will play
or
Open an avi file with a Windows Media 9 stream in it. In that case, as of now, there is no way to play that file on a mac.
Thankfully, there aren't that many of those files around.

Slightly OT:
But I have a few MPEG files that I can't get to play on Quicktime. Nor do I get to open it in Final Cut or iMovie. The file extension is .mpeg. I think it's because these files were made in Adobe Premiere way, way back and somehow I can't open it anymore. Although last I recall it did work on my old wintel PC. Can you suggest a player that I can probably use?
The error message I get is "Couldn't open the file --- because it is not a file Quicktime understands."
But other files with the same extension .mpeg work fine with it. What could be the problem?
Thanks

It could be an MPEG2 file, in which you need this:

here the error that shows up in vlc
-->
main: no suitable decoder module for fourcc `WMV3'.
VLC probably does not support this sound or video format.
and windows media player 9 brings to a webpage that gives me this message
-->
In order to play this file, you need to upgrade your media player to a version compatible with Windows Media Rights Manager V7. Select View Compatible Players below to see a list of compatible media players.
If your current media player does not have a Windows Media Rights Manager V7 compatible version, you should select a different player with the Windows Media Rights Manager V7 identifier.
i guess hindi talaga pwede sa mac
