VLC is for playing almost any video file format. I use it for playing DivX encoded avi files.

The Penman
more commonly used for playing VCDs (just drag and drop the CD image onto the VLC icon--with any luck, it'll play).

For a moment, I thought this thread was entitled "vic".
Excuse me for being self-centered.

You could use this too to play your DVD's if your Combo drive has chosen to play one region or have region locked already (meaning you've played Regions 1 and 3 DVD's five alternating times). Of course there is a hack to make your DVD player multiregion, but still, the vlc could be a good substitute for your DVD player if this happens. You could also prevent region locking by playing either R1 DVD's with your DVD player and R3 with your vlc.

You're not alone! I was thinking it's your new post on your gallery. Then I read your reply and found out it's about VLC.
