Default Resources for a video newbie

Armed with by 15" 1.25 GHz PowerBook, I'm ready to jump into video! Where can I find tutorials (books or websites) for using iMovie and iDVD?

The Help menu of each program can give you a head start.
Or just questions here in the forum, Im sure there are a lot of helpful hands out there.

Hard to find but I've seen an IMovie for Dummies but then again that was IMovie 2. There are books on FCPro 2 & 3 still on sale. Check eBay !!!

Freeform, just fiddle with the program. iMovie is so fun and easy to learn!

what videocam did you get ??

First thing you have to do is to get comfortable with your camcorder and shoot !! After watching your handheld footage, if you get dizzy, then get a good stable (heavy?) tripod !

Then fool around with IMovie and as Freelancer says..."Freeform".

Here is a tip to maximise your camcorder's transport system. When you or IMovie controls your camcorder, don't go from rewind to play, or rewind to fast forward etc., just go through the routine, rewind to stop then to play. From play to stop and then fast forward etc., you get the drill ?? Tedious and slow but your camcorder will love you for it !! And get a videohead cleaner whether it be Digi8 or miniDV !!

If your camcorder does not have a UV or neutral density filter, get one and protect and keep your video lens clean !! And an extra battery if you get really "video motivated."

    Cheers

I have the Sony DCR-TRV18. It's the one I could afford a few years back. Thanks for the iMovie control tip! I have around 30GB free space on my drive and I'm planning to get an EZQuest Cobra 120GB external firewire drive so I can have more storage space. I have around 12 miniDV tapes and plan to edit a few at a time. What's the best way to deal with dumping the raw footage into my drives?
Freelancer's right, the iMovie controls look very easy to work with!

TJ. You might want to try a firewire enclosure (3.5&quot and a 3.5 HDD of around 80-120 GB. This will be much cheaper. I've been using mine for Video Projects. 80GB 7200 RPM. So far, so good.

All in all, you would spend around 8k for that.

Welcome to the forums Mr. TJ Parpan of AIESEC UP fame! Well, at least I hope its you......

You can start out with getting a good book - "iMovie 2: The Missing Manual" is what I have. What I like about it is that it starts out with how to shoot good video and then proceeds to explain how the application works.

Just as a reference, 5 mins of video is 1G of memory. You'll need 12gig at least for every tape you'd want to dump.
