Default Pinoy won Best Foreign Documentary short film in New York!

    Check this out:

WITH COLORFUL scenes of market day at Tanauan Agora Public Market in Leyte, filmmaker Eli Africa captures snapshots of vendors who sing as they sell with the short documentary film, “Selling Songs of Leyte.”

A tradition, not commonly-known by even the locals, the film premiers at this year’s New York International Independent Film & Video Festival.

Eli is a friend of mine, and when he was still here in the Philippines, he used to edit in my place, using only iMovie for his documentary. This guy is amazing, uses only an old Sony TRV-110 Digital8 to shoot documentaries. Right now he is living off of contributions from people who've seen his DVD in California. Please, if you guys have relatives in NY (or even NJ) maybe you can ask them to support the festival and Eli's film. I'll ask him to upload the trailer in his site.

    Let's all wish him success.

Interesting story. One of my best friends in college makes films, and I've tried editing video on iMovie myself. Been to Leyte once- I don't think the singing market vendors are in Lonely Planet! Maybe your friend can get sponsors for a Philippine film-showing (the Natl. Commission for Culture and the Arts might be interested- grant info on www.ncca.gov.ph). Best wishes!

    WHOOHOO! Go Eli!

he was my prof (for 4 semesters because we thoroughly enjoyed his lectures and his unothodox ways) and friend from UP Fine Arts.

Probably one of the most forward thinking individuals i've met in my lifetime.

I never doubted your talents and abilities sir Eli.

    New York! Libog (Passion)!

Eli will be sending the raw video files to me so I can author a custom DVD here. I can arrange a screening for Philmug, another reason for a meeting. Maybe after Christmas na.
