    Default iMovie Store

Coming soon to an iMovie HD theater "very" near you

Another interesting and intriguing article from Mr. Robert X. Cringely:

    http://www.pbs.org/cringely/pulpit/pulpit20050120.html

    Some interesting tidbits:

    - And Jobs explained it himself -- it is the "Year of HD" and nearly all of the year is yet to come. As he darkly hinted, we can expect further announcements.

    - If Apple hopes to emulate its iPod/iTunes success, what does that mean? It means selling hardware devices and proprietary content to play on those devices. The first such hardware device is probably the Mini.

    - Remember Steve said this is the Year of HD. So one could expect that any video sold by Apple would be in high definition format. That gets around the supposed cable monopoly (there is no HD monopoly) and is suitably proprietary that Apple ought to be able to enforce its Digital Rights Management system.

Mr. Cringely really makes a valid point that Apple is in a great position to own key components of selling HD Movies !

This is interesting, especially now that there is wide speculation about Apple acquiring Tivo.

Since the HD format is 'scalable' (meaning no matter how big or how small it gets, quality isn't compromised -- that we all have to actually see and try out for ourselves), I don't think video for the iPod is that far off.

    Exciting times are indeed ahead.

Finally Apple is aggressive in pushing the Mac as a home media center. I cringe everytime I hear the term HTPC.

Personally, my money is on Quicktime. Proprietary or not. In the future, would rather buy a Commercial High Def DVD from Apple, rather than here, di ba Doc Adel?

Hmmm...interesting read. He makes some very valid points and could he be right about it. It will be interesting how busy Apple gets this year. It's been a busy two months in Apple. Could we be in for new announcements every month?

    arcy,

nice article. after movies..will it be games ? games for the iPod and Mac...
will a bigger partnership with Sony be happening ?

Yes, the mini was created as an endpoint for network based services/content but can stand on its own just like the iPod. think of it as the 1st gen version. Ill wait for 3rd gen probably though. Apple is on a roll and probably has in the roadmap some pretty exciting products and services. they have been executing well on their product development. the big question for microsoft now ... where do you want to go today? haha

perhaps sony is dumping its clie line to deliver a phone/pda/ipod screen solution with apple. perhaps sony is also the pc manufacturer wooing jobs to license apple OS for their hardware. one must admit sony is the pc manufacturer that comes closest to apple in terms of design and use - but of course no where actually close to apple.
