iMovie.Project to VCD
Hello Sirs,
Is there a fast method of transferring my Imovie.Project to VCD?
I tried iMovie share and set it to expert settings (sorenson video) and try to encode it. the problem is that it'll took me 300 minutes to complete the task... is that normal for a 40minute video i made with iMovie???
already tried to drag the iMovie.Imovieproject to roxio, still the same...
Is it normal? should I really wait for around 4 hours just to burn it in VCD?
thanks in advance

Re: iMovie.Project to VCD
It's actually not the burning that's taking 4 hours, it's the encoding. iMovie, and other video-editing applications, work with digital video that's only slightly compressed, so they have to be encoded into more compressed formats to fit them into VCDs and DVDs. Encoding takes a lot of computing horsepower to perform and will usually take longer (depending on your system, it can be A LOT longer) than the actual running time of the movie you're encoding.

Dee
you should feel lucky, encoding in a pc takes a lot looooooooooooonger....once went to a shop for vcd transfer. the material was only 30 minutes. it took a whole day.

Re: iMovie.Project to VCD
In my case, after importing the video to iMovie from my videocam and editing it, I just record it back to the videocam media in AVI format. It's lossless format so to speak, no compression but edited.

Re: iMovie.Project to VCD
i succesfully converted the imovie project last night... i just left my ibook open last night... but I got disappointed coz the output of the movie was pixelized... I converted the project thru iMovie share function and selected the *.avi output...
my encoding took around 4-5 hours i think...for a 40minute video
now i have do to it all over again with another settings with full quality.. still have to research for the settings...

Re: iMovie.Project to VCD
hey dee! that happened to me as well. burning imovie projects as VCD will make your movie lose its sharpness(?). try making it into a full dv file. that way, you wont have pixeled movies. hope this helps

That's true, you preserve full quality by keeping it in .DV format. Unfortunately, you won't be able to play it in regular VCD and DVD players. Also, the files will be HUGE.
Dee, you're on the right track. Try to drag and drop the exported DV file into Toast and burn it as VCD. Toast will do the encoding for you. I just tested it out now and quality was satisfactory. Keep us posted.
