Default How much to charge for a 30sec TVC

...hi ya... was just wondering how much you guys would charge if you were to edit a 30sec TVC for a sports clothing company? (they're not that big of a company but not that small either) ...i'd be doing all the non-linear editing and the graphics c/o fcp, after effects and maya. any thoughts on the subject would be much appreciated. thanks in advance!

P.S. price should also include a newly designed 3d animated logo for the company.

There's no standard rate for things like these I think. IMHO, think of how much work will be involved and how much time you'll spend. Consider how much your skills are worth and don't under value yourself (with the softwares that you mentioned you can handle, malufit ka bro, so dapat lang may premium ka). Then name a reasonable price that you'll be happy with. But syempre, also consider how much the company can afford to pay without scaring them off to go look for someone cheaper. This is the Philippines after all. If they opt for someone way cheaper, or sabihin nila si ganito, ganito lang ang price, hayaan mo sila. They'll get what they paid for. Don't compromise on the price that you'll be happy with is my advice. But its up to you, maybe you can offer them a cheap price now, and when they see your work is good quality, they'll come back and give you more work wherein you'll charge your regular rate. Basta as much as possible, wag ka makipag patayan sa presyo with other people.

Also becareful of being abused by clients. Like after the project is done, they'll come back and say, uy paki add naman ng ganito at ganon. Or during the course of the project, ang dami nilang singit at dagdag and it becomes a 60 second TVC. You'll have to state that additional charge na yan. The pros usually have the client signoff on an agreement stating that they have accepted the final draft of the product thus far para di pabalik balik sila and so that the project can progress.

Very helpful insights Kenneth! The contract is as important as the work itself.

...ei thanks kenneth for the words of wisdom. the reason i asked kasi is that this is my first time editing a tvc, i usually edit and do graphics for tv shows and plugs. tama ka... ibe-base ko na lang sa hourly rate ko i guess and guesstimate na lang on how long i'll be working on the project. (inclusive of petiks. hehe) just kidding of course. anywho... i thought kasi that there might be a standard price for these things para 'di na ko kailangan mag calculate ng deserved talent fee ko. thanks again guys!

oh! and di naman ko "malufit" masyado. hehe. Maya newbie pa lang naman ako. no plans pa to create the next Gollum or anythin'.

always allow for X amount of revisions...pero hanggang dyan lang. Any more revisions past the ones you've set and the client should pay more.

As for me, my standard 30sec tvc for
OFFLINE- 12k as in OFFLINE ha, cut-to-cut edit with mockup graphics lang,
    ONLINE- 15K..
    OFFLINE.ONLINE - 18k
Pero inhouse ako nyan.. you can just add in for your Maya 3d graphics charges on it. or kung ano pang charges meron ka like if you're using your own machine.

Wow! dude Maya user ka?? Paturo naman. hehe. Asteeeg!

@dinxcarin: ei... thanks a bunch for your help! at least may ballpark figure na ko to play around with. hehe. cge ba! ...once medyo I get the hang of Maya na talaga we can start a Maya on Mac Club for us muggers. im still taking classes eh.

@kilter: basically... offline is just a rough draft of the final edit and online would be the final edit.

    No probs kilter

In TVC production protocols. After client, agency and supplier's pre-production meeting. And after the shoot.

there's OFFLINE EDITING and ONLINE EDITING.

OFFLINE is where you layout your project or sequence according to the storyboard.
Cut-to-cut editing mostly happens in an offline stage.
Bale prang rough edit with your edit points na . like time in and out & simple transistions.
The timing depends n your director that is if you're gona be working wiith one.
Simple Supers, mock up graphics are inserted in your project just to show roughly how its going to look. (for Online ediitng)

if it's done, then you are ready for a client/agency presentation.
On this stage, Agency and Clients can start throwing in their comments & discuss how the
animation should look, color grading, etc. Major revisions can happen here. if there's a need to re-edit, dito na gnagawa un. I mean within the offline time frame.
Usually Offline takes 4 to 6hrs session. Depende kung gano ka complicated ang project.

Offline editor then starts to revise and make the necessary changes according to what clients want.

    Then there comes

    ONLINE EDITING.
On this stage ONLINE EDITOR recaptures media clips on high res settings
and edits the ONLINE sequence according to your EDL. on layman's term , bale
kinkopya lan ng online editor ung project mo.

Depende din kasi kung pano ka nag-offline.
Ako , during offline session. I capture my media clips on high res format na kasi ako din naman mag online.
Sa Ibang supplier. They do it Separately kasi sa iba sila magpa-online edit.

So After revisions are made. You are now ready for Online or Final presentation.
Sa online presentation, Wala ng dapat major revisions yan. Kasi FINAL na nga.
Kung meron siguro, mga konti adjustments na lan yan sa edit points .

    so basically that's it.

    Whew! haba ah. haha.
