HDV on a powerbook
has anyone tried editing HDV on a powerbook yet? I know that theoretically they will run with FCP 5 and a lot of RAM but I would like to know about performance and speed. personally i am a bit apprehensive.
also, what kind of storage do you think I would need? i am anticipating around 25 hours of HDV footage. I have never worked with HDV before and am wondering if anyone has any real world experience?
thanks in advance.

I'd guess you'd need to have an external RAID server because of the data transfer needs of HD. Will your work be broadcasted locally?

it's meant to be blown up to film, which is why the shoot is HDV. I'm trying to cut costs and find the most economical way to go about this. thanks for the tip.

25 hours? wow.. a g-raid drive would definitley do or atleast get a firewire800 drive with a sata disc.
ive only recently tried shooting with the hdv cameras. are you sure wanna edit this on a powerbook alone?

alanganin nga, which is why I was wondering if anyone in the philippines has tried it. basically I am trying to see if it's possible without having to buy a G5. cross fingers. also, this particular project requires that I be mobile. have you tried editing the footage that you shot?
pwede ba yung sata sa fw800? do you know anyone who sets that up? thanks muchly.

Is 1080i even good enough for the cinema? I know Lucas had to go 4K with Episode II and III. If it's for local consumption then it would be good enough. Imagine it a "clean" local film. No grime or dirt.

you could probably do an offline edit on your powerbook, if its not fx heavy i guess. i dont think you necessarilly need a g5 for it. maybe a dual g4 would do =)

oh hey haha I heard about this wedding. that has to be a philippine first. talk about a big budget.
will you tell me how your edit goes?
I heard about long conform times right when you are ready to edit to tape. how are you monitoring your video externally? are you using an aja/decklink for this?
you'll probably busy editing your footage by the time I post this but thanks for any help you can give
