Good DV Camera?
Hi, I'm thinking of buying a DV camera but I don't know anything about it.. :shy:
What should I be looking for? Any certain brands that are better? Features and/or capabilities? Thanks! :P

Getting a DV cam is not an easy thing, depends on too many variables, mostly suiting to one's taste, preference, field of usage and budget.
Check out the Panasonic PV-GS120 the best low budget in 3ccd DV cam.

DV or mini DV?
Go for Sony or Canon.
If you have the budget buy a 3CCD mini DV camcorder.
Features to look for:
Manual Focus Control, White Balance, Night Shot, Exposure and Audio control

For minidv, I'd recommend the new Optura (600? I think). It is the one that is black and also features a 4.3mp still photo capability. I believe that this model can truly stand as a 2 in 1 device - consolidating video/photo capability. Good size and portability. This is definitely in my wish list.

I agree with this one. If you could go 200 or 400 the better, that is, if your budget would permit you.

Yup, I own a GS120, very happy with it. Features and quality are good enough for an amateur like me.

Look for camera thatoffers DV analogue inputs so when you need to convert an analog source, your camera would be reay to take that analogue signal and capture it thru firewire. In a sense you will already have a capture card once you buy that DV camera. Its like hitting two birds with one stone! Sony, Canon, Panasonic and other reputable brands offer this, so its up to you what camera to choose...Good luck!

i recommend in getting a sony. the consumer level cameras are great. you dont need to get the 3 megapixel cameras. you're good with the 1 megapixel ones. besides when you convert them to dvds it can only utilize only that much. that will let you save a couple grand, then you can opt to buy accessories with the money you saved.

if you have the cash go for the consumer level hdvs. it looks like theyll be around for quite some time.
