Don't know how big the user community is. The Philippine Center for Creative Imaging offers FCP training.

Why bother about formal classroom training from them when FCP books are easily available in Manila and lots of free FCP tutorials are on the net if you know how to search?FCP is easy to learn if you try it out anyway.

Yup, lot of fcp tutorials in the net. Kenstone's website gives helpful tips and tricks for fcp and very detailed tutorials too.

As for how big the fcp user community is, i know of about 20 plus persons using fcp, he he!

I guess all of your advises apply to other software like Adobe Premiere, After Effects et al.

Thanks guys. Maliit pa rin pa la. i've used FCP since its inception. i've done tv commercials with it when it first came out while i was still there. having read the book and be properly trained is very helpful if one needs to be a professional editor. Experimentation is good, just don't do it with a paying client, specially if its on a per hour rate.

so of those 20 people, how good and fast are they? are most of them familiar with HD editing setups? 1080i editing not 720p.

I'm asking because i'm thinking of going back to Manila and do HD, although i know the high end community might have set up already; but the content that i'm bringing in will hopefully sustain me.

Which leads me to the next question. (btw, just tell me if i am posting this in the right forum, thanks) what's the stat of HD in Manila. Who's the expert???

again, for all the replies thank you.

Honestly, HD stats is still very low than film because production wise and cost is almost the same. And because of that, majority of that market is still on film. By the way there's another one, 24 p cameras is another competitor for television because of the beautiful output they produce and the cost is very low....And how good we are? we are very fast, experience and confident to do the job and I think there's three high end post houses in makati that caters HD---UNDERGROUND LOGIC, IGNITE and UNITEL(as far as i know). And were familiar with the set up, actually two major TV stations were already using FINAL CUT PRO. And FCP editors is already a big community here, but only a few of us can maximize...,..

Pretty sure the big TV stations and production houses are getting into HD. Always good to be competitive, though I guess they are trying to squeeze the most out of the older hardware until these croak.

Training staff to use the new technologies is still not priority in this country, that's why not everyone can maximize the software. Management assumes staff can self-train while still carrying out their day-to-day tasks, and not everyone has that kind of motivation or time to self-train.
