Default fcp can't detect firewire device

Hi. I have a problem with FCP 4.5 HD. It won't detect my camera which is connected through firewire. Upon fcp startup, it says: "Unable to locate the following external devices: Apple Firewire NTSC 720x480." I tried reconnecting the camera and changing the firewire cable, but it still won't work. I haven't experienced this problem before. It's only after I upgraded to Tiger when I began experiencing this. What should I do?

What brand is the camera? What model number? So you were able to connect to the camera prior to Tiger?

Sony VX2000. Yes, I was able to connect to the camera prior to tiger. I tried iMovie HD and it was able to connect to the camera. I was even able to capture video clips. What seems to be the problem with FCP?

Probably an isolated case. Haven't had problems with v4.5 regarding firewire connection.

This is definitely the same problem I had. You'll need to go into your library and trash some Quicktime prefs and install Quicktime 7 again. The you should be able to have FCP reading your camera. Click on the link smartypants posted above. Good luck!

hello! i work in a company where we use fcp 4.5 hd. sometimes we have problems with the settings, what we do is we delete the preferences file of fcp. so do a search in spotlight (since you're running tiger os) for final cut pro. then the two preferences files will come out, it's the "final cut pro 4.5 preferences" file and the "final cut pro 4.5 POA cache" file. their icons are parang fcp project files. what you have to do is delete these files. don't worry, these files will regenerate once you startup fcp. it's just like giving fcp a fresh start, hehe. you just have to reconfigure your fcp. so far that's what we do here whenever we encounter mga "anomalya" sa fcp.

There's an app which does this. It's called FCP Rescue. You can download it here
