    Default fcp backwards compatability

hi, i feel kind of stupid asking this but i never had to deal with it before.

i have a client who has an unfinished video on fcp 4. his editor just left him and so im supposed to finish the work they have started. the thing is they worked on the project on fcp 4 and ill be working on it on fcp 4.5. now hes asking me after i work on it if they would have a problem opening the project file again on their own since their system is on fcp 4 and not 4.5. im not sure what to answer.

    any ideas guys. thanks

In a word, YES. You should have no problems using FCP 4.5 to use older project files. But take note, you may not go back to the older file formats. But that shouldn't be too much of a problem for you.

When I upgraded to FCP HD, a prompt would appear everytime I opened a project which I previously edited on FCP 4. FCP HD would ask if I would like to update the project file to match the latest version, with the warning that it may not be opened in older versions once converted. So there is a chance you might not be able to open in FCP 4.

thanks guys. but i found a way around it. what i did was to export it as an xml file and then just reconnected the files.
