    Default Defective DVD-R

We covered a big event and orders for recopies of the video keeps pouring in. The dvd-r's i got from the US ran out so I purchased 100 pcs of TDK DVD-R (Taiwan-made) from a trusted shop and was dismayed that almost 50% was defective. I purchased some more (Philips brand naman), this time also from another trusted shop and experienced the same problem. for the nth time I went to buy some more and my luck haven't changed. i called my sister from the US to order but she also complained they've been getting bad dvd-r's too lately (Philips & TDK brands din). A friend told me the dvd's are imitations or fakes. the shops I go to are trusted ones, don't they know they are buying fake dvd's? How do you know they are fake? The packaging looks genuine.

    Is this a trend now???

This defective dvd-r's is really bad for the business. Has anyone experienced the same problem lately? The irony of it all is that these shops won't replace dvd-r's that has already been burned...how on earth can anyone tell a dvd-r isn't working unless you've burned and tried playing it? :slanted:

iceprincess, i recently burned a few DVD-Rs and i experienced a similar problem. i was getting bad burns. a whole lot of them. almost more than 50% of the lot, as you said. but my case was a just a bit different. i discovered that i experience perfect success by burning at lower or the prescribed speed, and, more importantly, burning from a freshly booted machine.

its been a practice that i burn a speed lower than the published write speeds of current dvds in the market. so far, 9 out of 10 burns end up being succesful. you might want to try it.

Could the problem be with the DVD burner itself or some incompatibility with it and the discs? I've burned quite a lot lately at the disc's maximum rated speed and out of 75 or so, only one was defective when toast unexpectedly quit for some reason. I've been using 8x Sony and Imation media.

I burn using the speed lower than prescribed actually. I didnt have any problem with the dvd-r stock that i bought from the States, just happened that naubusan ako ng stock and I was compelled to buy here then the rest is you-already-know-what-happened. the dvd-writer is Pioneer, however dont know the brand of the other G5 Panther though. I checked the compatability of the dvd-r and the writer, so far no problem there.

anyway, i'm not saying i'm happy to know i'm not the only one having problems with the dvd-r at least i'm relieved to know i'm not just having a bad week...

MG...I'll keep in touch with you as soon as I get back in Manila. try ko dvd-r nyo.

Dominiquejames...you may have a point there, my macs have been "overworked" during the holidays, burning dvd-r right after another . I'll try your suggestions.

I'll keep you all posted. Thanks for the replies!
