converting mpeg/mpg files to vcd/dvd

I am a newbie in video editing and I would like to know how to convert my mpeg/mpg files (hard-to-find movies from my friend who sent it for me from the US) written on a cd-r and in mpeg format and I would like to convert it to vcd or even in dvd? what software should I use for conversion? :qmark:

I used to try astarte but it take so long to convert. I guess toast is also the same?

I use DVD VX or just the toast...its easy lang.

I know its easy but does it take along time to convert? when I was using astarte media pack on OS 9 a few years ago, 1 hr of movie takes 1 day to convert. By the way, how about the other files besides mpeg and mpg (like avi, wmv, etc), how do I convert them to mpeg format? Must I also use the softwares you are sugesting?

well, let's get straight here.

you will need a dvd or vcd player that is connected a firewire dv player to capture the whole video into your computer for editing before you make it a vcd or a dvd.
