TIP: Its best if you bought the camera and the player brand newand with the same make (sony and sony) and at the same time used the same brand of MiniDV tape from day one. This way, the lubricant inside the tape will give the player and the camera the same residue (which cannot be avoided anyway) and not give you too much headaches with the head alignment and playback consistency (video banding, pixellization, artifacting etc.) in the long run. Got this idea from Adam Wilt's website (www.adamwilt.com who is a veteran in the digital video industry.

Yup, quite an expensive tip, but it will pay off in the long run eventually. Just my two centavos...

will you be able to buy these mini dv plyers locally? and do they have firewire ports so that you can capture from them also. if they do then i'm sold! as long as the price is right!

They should have Firewire ports since they are prosumer type MiniDV players. But I dont think they are locally available. Or you can try Mayer Photo located in Hidalgo St. in Quiapo.

why not buy another low cost videocamcorder and use that as your playback unit. that is around 20T instead of the 900 to 1000 pesos equivalent of the player.

The minidv players head last longer than the cameras. they are also less likely to eat your tape, scratch it or what not.

then again it all depends on the type of work you do. but if you're really getting paid for these gigs its always better to put your money on a sure thing. just like a MAC.
