Canon XH G1 is Here!
Canon's new HDV camcorders are here!
There are two models, the XH-G1 and the XH A1. The XH G1 has the Pro Jack Pack while the A1 doesn't have one.

My only concern is the placement of the LCD screen (slight knock and it's off?).
Out in October. I'll wait for it in Singapore.

USD 6500+ for G1, USD 4500+ for A1. According to reports, this is Canon's answer to Sony's HDV Line.
The lens is not wide enough (for me, that is) so get a 72mm wide lens adapter.
Our company was sent a pre-prod model, it feels good, solid feel, weight balance is OK. A bit heavier than the FX1, though. Picture quality and color are what you expect from Canon. Compared to an uncompressed image, detail is great. We tested it versus a Thomson FilmStream. My only concern is the LCD screen because the brace looks fragile unlike Sony's.
I recommend it to prosumers and enthusiasts. And for starters with deep pockets as well.
If you're working in the broadcast industry (with HD infrastructure), get the G1 since you'll get the benefits of using SDI. If you're working on weddings and events, A1 will suffice.

Non-detachable lens, has an LCD Screen (optional for XLH1), slimmed down features, and of course, WEIGHT! But it still retains the impressive megapixel 3CCD found in the H1. Has the metal finish as well.

wd you say that the image quality you get with the A1 is noticably better than that of the FX1.

Hard to determine... Color rendition may give that difference. Quality wise, it's OK. Except that 24F HDV is incompatible for playback on Sony HDV equipment. HDV 1080i 30P will play. FX1 can't output uncompressed HD, which is an advantage with the G1.

Re: Canon XH G1 is Here!
care to upload some samples in .mt2 format? a dynamic shot w/o edits sana as most samples i've seen online are trees, ducks, bikes and windmills.
i recall hearing from a friend that a local had his wedding filmed in HD. as the company he hired didnt have HDV cams he bought some himself and had them use it.

I'll try to post the comparison file on a site. We're busy right now so it might take some time for me to upload it. Just make sure you have the line to download a 1GB M2T file.

hehehe kahit a few seconds 50-100MB clips lang of anything more dynamic. i can't wait to drop SD already for something more civilized.
