Hi there,
Hmmm.... just the exact debate I went through earlier since the annoucement of Motion (losing faith in Adobe for discontinuing products on the Mac platform, so I figured to start early on another product).
Combustion does have a totally different learning curve from AE and I'm currently going through the learning curve coming from an AE production background. Before that I did a lot of research between the two, there are a lot of debates and discussions on this topic on the net...
The verdict in the end u ask?
It's just like asking whether Maya/Lightwave/XSI is better... in the end, I had no answer and I decided to go with my gut feeling that sooner or later, Adobe will discontinue AE when they start loosing the race with Motion (another reason is I wanted to learn more of the workflow and environment of higher-end softwares like Flame have which Combustion shared... same thing I did when I gave up on other 3D packages and took the Maya plunge).
Price side of things, Combustion comes with better particles, morphing and a few other features built-in. AE 6 requires further purchase of these as plug-ins to get to the same level as Combustion, this makes the price tag of AE higher than just a single seat of Combustion right out of the box.
So... that's a vote to Combustion from me!
arty:
NOTE: AE runs/renders a tad bit faster on the Mac tho...
can someone tell me where can i find Combustion?
i've been doing my graphic via AE. but there's more in Motion and Combustion.whatever. i just want to have a feel of it.
Been an After Effects User since 4 and 5.5. All I can say is, its hard to transition from the intuitive UI of AE to the highly complicated UI of Combustion. Motion on the other hand can be too easy sometimes it doesnt seem to be as powerful as AE or Combustion. Check the discreet website for more Combustion info.
