Default avi, dvd burning and tiger

hi! i hope that this is not a second posting on this topic. i searched the forum and nothing came up. i currently have a problem. i recently upgraded to tiger. it was a clean install considering my baby crashed and they had to replace my hard drive (the longest week of my life!). im running on quicktime 7.0, ilife 05 and toast. the only thing that reads my video files is VLC. quicktime, imovie and toast cant seem to display my video. there is no audio as well. i tried loading ffmpegx (as suggested by kenneth and henjie in other postings) but it cant seem to install. the new divx codecs do not work on tiger (as noted in their website). also tried loading an xvid codec but it was too complicated for me to install. any ideas on what went wrong ? thanks in advance!

You could try doing what is suggested in this thread on the ffmpegx forums. I hope it's the same problem you've been encountering. It worked for me.

What are you trying to do by the way? Burn avi files into DVDs for playback at ordinary DVD players?

Try using MPlayer OS X as an alternative video player to VLC, Quicktime, and DVD Player. Sometimes, it plays video files that won't play in VLC.

    Default ffmpegx components missing

    Guys,

Have the same problem as Catrina. I reinstalled ffmpegx on Tiger, downloaded the 3 components needed (mpeg2enc, mencoder, mplayer), but they didn't install. The error message went something like: "you have to locate the files."

Anybody know where to get the files. The usual links (sourceforge, etc.) don't seem to have the right ones.

thanks for the advice. i already fixed my problem i was usng the quicktime pro to encode/convert my avi files to mov. i usually burn alot of videos on dvd.

triguy, you can download ffusion in version tracker. .after installing this codec i have had no problems at all. btw, i got teh same message for ffmpegx. the funny thing was it was all on my desktop. ffusion is the way to go! haha easy installation and solved my problems.
