    Default Taking pics at concerts

This may be a stupid question, but do you think I'll be allowed to take pictures duringa concert? The wifey and I are going to Hong Kong this Wednesday to watch the Eagels Farewell Concert (Woohoo!), and I'm thinking of bringing my DSLR. Whatya guys think? Will I be allowed to take pics?

Well, I've ushered a few concerts locally, and here's the thing:

Initially, we don't allow people to take them. We confiscate what cameras we can find, and stop people from taking pics when they try (putting our palms in front of the lens).

But then eventually, we are overpowered by the #(%^@%# people who just won't listen. So halfway through the concert, we cuss under our breaths and just leave them to snap away. We're getting paid anyway :P

So yeah, you can try hiding your camera in your bag, wait until the ushers give up on the audience, then snap away :P

I will never usher again. Hehe.

I won't bet on it. They usually don't allow cameras or any recording devices in concerts. You may be able to sneak in one of those dinky cameras but a DSLR may be a bit harder to pull off.

better disguise your camera as something else muna. if they see your camera, worst case is, just leave the battery with them, but dont leave the camera - tell them it wont work without that particular battery. Then when inside, pull out your extra and working battery, then snap away. Heck, you can even turn over to them any battery and those guys will still believe its your camera's battery.

It's what I do most of the time when - learning from an old experience. My old Film SLR was lost by some stupid security guys at this outdoor concert. The organizer paid for the replacement unit. That was a long time ago nga lang, when I was still in high school.

Hmm.. If you are bringing a point and shoot i think it would be safe to hide and shoot away once the concert starts but if you are bringing a DSLR, you might be asking for trouble... am sure you want to enjoy the concert sometimes it isnt worth the trouble..
    :drunk:

Have seen some events that some photographers were thrown out because they werent in the official list of photogs. If you do have a press ID i think it would be good to have it around if they start pestering you. arty:

What about faxing or emailing the concert/event organizer beforehand for permission to accredit you to take pictures?

The best thing is to ask permission. We should respect the organizers rules. Wag maging pasaway.

when my daughter and I watched Barney in CCP a few months ago, i didn't bring any camera because the organizers told me that cameras were not allowed. to my chagrin, almost everybody else brought a camera. and they were allowed by the guards to bring them inside. i was content shooting barney, babybop and bj with my nokia 6600. haay, sometimes, it does not pay to follow the rules.

unless you are getting a pretty up front seats, its almost unless to bring any cameras to a big concert like that. those tiny point and shoots will not zoom far enough, while too light weight to hold steady for long exposures (your tiny flash is useless)

you will probably be needing something like 70-200 or even 300mm lens to get any decent pix. even if you can sneak pass your DSLR, i doubt you can sneak in those big lenses.

my suggestion is just go and have fun at the concert, forget about bringing your DSLR, it might ruin the whole live concert experience of a life time

Knowing the HK guys, they probably wont allow you, but Dominique James had the best idea, i think- ask them before the show. In concerts, it's not's always the band's policy re: cameras. Sometimes it's the organizers who decide. Better to check with the organizers what the Eagles policy is and what their policy is to save yourself the hassle and so that you and the better half can really enjoy the show. Maybe giving us a review when you get back...These things never happened when Jerry Garcia (Grateful Dead) was around. He always had a special place near the stage for people whon wanted to record the concert live and I doubt if he would ban cameras as well. But if they have plans to record the show for future airing, I doubt theyll allow flashbulbs going off as it would screw up their lighting set up. Enjoy the show. Bring your camera phone na lang pang consuelo sakali bawal.
