Suggestions for a Long Zoom Digital Camera
Salutations,
I'm in the market for a long zoom digital camera and based on several reviews off the net, I've rounded my choices down to the Canon S1 IS, Kodak DX7590, Konica Minolta DiMage Z3 and a Panasonic Lumix FZ3. Does anyone among you own any of these cameras or have seen prints from the cameras? I would definitely appreciate your comments and suggestions.

Best to ask these questions in phphoto yahoo groups below:

I would recommend a Canon 300D with 18-55 kit lens (P45,000 brand new at Infomax) and a Sigma 70-300 APO Macro II lens (P11,800 at JTPHoto World).
A digital SLR camera will give you far better image quality, faster response, more control and expandibility compared to consumer digital cameras. The Canon 300D is the cheapest dSLR in the market now, other options would be the newer Canon 350D or the Nikon D70. but they are around P10-20T more expensive already. Remember you will still invest in CF cards, lenses, bags and other camera accessories so if you are within a limited budget, the 300D is the way to go.
I have known people who bought the Canon G5-G6, S1 IS, even the Kodak 10x zoom camera and didn't like the performance after they have tried out a dSLR. These consumer cameras are being sold at around P20-32T if you are interested, also found at phphoto yahoogroups.

EVF cam is also good but got a shutter lag.
I have a sony f717 but now at sony service center for its lens block malfunction, the service center told me that it will cost me 24,800.00 for the repair! too expensive! i might buy a new cam. Cam in mind is D70, which is a bit high... still thinking...

If you don't want to go the dSLR Route (I think the Digital Rebel XT 350D is great value), I would take a look at the Olympus C series cameras. They are very good value as far as prosumer cameras go. The C-740 is only 20T and has a good optical zoom range, albeit at 3.2MP. The higher end C-8xx series has up to 8MP and a birght fast lens. Either camera supports add on zoom multipliers.
Or check out this thread for a great camera with a lot of add ons.

I did consider olympus and even fujifilm before, but the price of xD cards as opposed to CF and SD cards came into play...
